After a long vacation in Japan, boyfriend and I have been focusing on eating local Hong Kong food. So, a cha chan teng was our dinner choice that evening!Ban Yuet looked promising as it was fairly full. It appeared a lot of people who lived in this area ate here so we went in. Ban Yuet looked promising as it was fairly full. It appeared a lot of people who lived in this area ate here so we went in. It was very clean and bright with good lighting. Menu was in English and Chinese. However, at night they have dinner sets that are in the form of a daily soup, rice and a Chinese savory main. That is listed on a wall and in Chinese only. So, we ordered an item from there and a typical cha chan teng classic.
Daily Soup was a typical pork with snow fungus. It was ok savory soup.
Garoupa with Tofu in a Claypot ($58). Piping hot, this was tasty and not too salty. I felt it was fine but boyfriend felt it was under seasoned. The fish was cooked perfectly and the tofu soaked up the sauce.
Stir Fried Noodles with Beef with Swiss Sauce ($55). I haven't had this in a while so we ordered this classic Hong Kong cha chan teng dish. Though not oily, this had absolutely no flavor. It was bland. The beef was tough. I have no idea if they even bothered to use any sort of soy sauce let alone Swiss sauce.
Possibly one of the healthiest tasting cha chan teng's I've ever been to. Nothing was overly salty. It wasn't too oily. Service was fine and place was clean. No wonder there was a decent amount of people eating here.
