My wife and I live in Happy Valley and we usually go to our usual restaurants in the Valley such as Nagomi, Bojyo or Gusto which are all very good restaurants but we were feeling a little adventurous and decided to explore the streets of Happy Valley. We stumbled upon this new restaurant, Na Thai and from the outside it seemed very inviting. Displayed in the window was a business lunch set available on Monday to Friday for HK$88 +10% and we thought we would give it a try given we had just come
We were greeted by the Maitre'D and led to our table. My first impression was that I liked the cosy restaurant and the wooden panelling throughout the restaurant. The restaurant only fits 6 tables and we found out from the Maitre'D that the restaurant had been opened for just 1 month. We looked though the menu and all the Thai classics were there. Based on the prices and the decor it would appear the restaurant is aimed at a mid tier crowd and may be well suited to the Happy Valley expats and locals.
First dish - Thai Beef Salad
This was a truly satisfying dish. Beef was quite tender and the spicyness from the dish was well balanced with the accompanying salad. The spicyness took me by surprise but it was a good surprise and reminded me of our recent trip to Bangkok. This salad was as good as the beef salad from Bangkok.
Second dish - Massaman Beef Curry
I have tried many Massaman currys before and this one ranks at the top end of those currys. The Massaman curry sauce was just perfect and was not that spicy. The potatoes and beef were well cooked and to my surprise I noticed a Star Anise in the curry which added great flavour to the dish. Perfect with white rice.
Dessert - Mango with sticky rice
Our Maitre'D asked whether we wanted dessert. We were feeling quite full but we wanted to try the Mango with sticky rice. This dish was well made and the sticky rice was nice and warm with a nice layer of coconut sauce. This combined with the just ripe Mango made this lunch experience a delight.
We later asked whether the chefs were from Thai descent and the Maitre'D confirmed that they were from Thailand.
This restaurant definitely gets top marks. We paid approximately HKD 220 for lunch and will definitely be coming back for Dinner.
