This has to be one of the ‘fanciest’ Vietnamese restaurants I have been too. It’s on the top floor of the WTC and its overlooking the harbor. It was a pretty gloomy day so the view wasn’t that great. I was ravenous by this stage, we had a light breakfast after a big night and was looking forward to some ‘good’ food. Little did I know, that I was going to be totally and utterly disappointed! The menu was also fancy – fusion Vietnamese food. We ordered the entrée tasting platter to start (for 2 pax

We ordered the entrée tasting platter to start (for 2 pax), and it was surprisingly filling and huge. Mind you – it was all fried and consisted of calamari rings, fish cakes, chicken satay on skewers, soft shell crab ‘spring roll’ and last but not least prawns on sugar canes. It was ok, but nothing to rave about, even the soft shell crab was ordinary.

Hubby ordered the beef pho (his quest for searching the best pho in Hong Kong), and well, as much as it was good to have soup on a dreary, cold, rainy day, this was also ordinary. The noodles was ok, the beef was quite tender and decent, however, too much MSG in the soup! It was like drinking MSG water, and personally that’s not how I like my soup! I also noticed that they didn’t serve any beansprouts with it, which we usually get in Vietnamese restaurant. Kudos for the mint leaves, lime and chili – we did have to ask for extra lime though – talk about stingy! They gave one 1/8 of a lime!!!!

MG ordered the red duck curry and it was surprisingly tasty. The duck was tender and succulent and the curry was different to that of Indian curry.

I thought it was a bit odd that they didn’t serve it with rice, but with bread sticks. Have you ever seen bread served in a wine glass before? Well neither have I, until that day!

I ordered the duck breast with rice but it never came. Hubby and MG were almost done with their meal and my dish has not arrived! I was a little unimpressed so cancelled it. The service I thought was appalling, it was slow, and the waiters were so not tentative. They would ignore you and pretend not to see you – it was pretty poor. Don’t think I will come back again that’s for sure.

MG and I needed something that’s not so rich to eat. We have been eating rich food pretty much every day we thought a casual Vietnamese lunch would help but it was totally disappointing. I was looking forward to our dinner as I know it will definitely be better than Rice Paper!
