Came here with boyfriend who wanted to try this place. I tried it when it first opened and come here on occassion for lunch. We arrived for afternoon tea session which is from 2:30 pm to 6 PM. During this time, everything is 20% off your bill. The staff are pretty nice and even let those that came in 5 minutes before 6 PM to get the 20% discount. Northern Dumpling Yuan serves Northern Chinese cuisine. Menu is in both English and Chinese. Usually I only come here for dumplings but as I came with boyfriend, we ordered more than that.
Cold Potato Shreds ($23). This plate was exactly as advertised. Cold potato shredded to have the taste and texture of noodles. This is great if you're a potato lover. But I don't really like potatoes so this was pass for me. Boyfriend loved it as he loves potatoes and downed it happily.
Fried Red Bean Cakes ($25). This was pretty good. It wasn't too oily. The red bean paste was nice and sweet. For this price, a good deal.
Steamed Pork and Watercress Dumplings ($34 for 5 pieces). Skin was not too thick. Filling was nice and juicy. Good balance of watercress to pork.
Deep Fried Vegetarian Dumplings ($41 for 5 pieces). Boyfriend likes his dumplings fried so we ordered one set fried. The vegetarian dumplings had a nice blend of spinach and mushrooms. It was ok. Not too oily from the frying.
Always great bargain and even greater bargain with the 20% discount during afternoon tea session. All this came to under $100 during tea time! I always return.
