We arrived at the LGB cafe restaurant in a Friday night and were seated straight away. We were given just the set menu and drinks menu. We quickly ordered as we were hungry and it was just after 8pm. First of all the waitress presented us with another tables food. Kept asking us if it was ours and she only went away when the other table told her it was theirs. First of all the waitress presented us with another tables food. Kept asking us if it was ours and she only went away when the other table told her it was theirs. A few minutes later she came back with the same plate of food - again insisting it was ours. Another waiter came over and said they made a mistake. At this point we had already been seated for 30mins and we still didn't have our drinks or was there even a glimmer of our starters.
My husband ordered the pumpkin soup and I ordered the shrimp salad.
When the food finally came (40mins after we ordered) I was beyond disappointed.
My shrimp salad was ONE shrimp cut into 8 pieces along with a few pieces of lettuce and covered in overly sweet shop bought balsamic vinegarette. It tasted like it was an after thought or they had run out of ingredients. For a set meal that costs $298 that is ridiculous. I would rather they tell me that they were closing up rather than present with food that is not worth the price.
The pumpkin soup was at least a normal portion (small bowl).
Waiting staff needed to reminded to collect the plates from our first 'course' even though they were wandering around and the place wasn't busy.
He main course came after having ordered 50mins prior. I ordered the sea bass which was a descent portion, it was slightly too salty and he tomato sauce tasted too much like it came out of a jar. My husband ordered the pig cheek which he said tasted nice but the portion size was very small - just 2 pieces with a few slices of potatoes.
Overall the food was overpriced what what got, and the taste was average. We had expected more flavour and quality from here but we didn't get it.
If you want cake and tea/coffee that's fine but don't bother with dinner.
