29th MayWas around Centre Street in the morning again. I was determined to search for a piggy bun for breakfast before work, and yet after walking along the long Des Voeux Road West I could find none. Frustrated, I headed directly into the last chaa chen tang i spot along the street, and that being the New Five Dragon Restaurant right opposite to Lin Heung Kui. It resembled Sun Chiu Kee, a large chain chaa chan tang which i really dislike. Anyhow i was left with no choice but to eat there.There
Was around Centre Street in the morning again. I was determined to search for a piggy bun for breakfast before work, and yet after walking along the long Des Voeux Road West I could find none. Frustrated, I headed directly into the last chaa chen tang i spot along the street, and that being the New Five Dragon Restaurant right opposite to Lin Heung Kui. It resembled Sun Chiu Kee, a large chain chaa chan tang which i really dislike. Anyhow i was left with no choice but to eat there.
There was no piggy bun BUT pork chop bun on the menu. Whatever - all i want was a proper breakfast to start my day with. So i had my usual: toast with peanut butter and condensed milk, extra toast, and hot yuen yeung.
The hot yuen yeung was really good. I asked for extra strength and they got it right. It tasted vaguely like coffee but had the smoothness and sweetness of milk, and it was quite thick and smooth in texture.
I was not expecting a lot from the restaurant, but i could not help feeling disappointed when i saw the thin toast in front of me. Luckily it was better toasted and was at least crunchy and dry, instead of moist with a terrible texture.
The fillings were generous but they were using the smooth peanut butter AGAIN. But in general it tasted better than what i had at CK kitchen two days ago.Now that the food were not that bad, i started to wonder why the restaurant called itself 'New Five Dragon' - does it have any association with the triad groups (as the name is really..powerful?)? Or is it just being boastful about the food it serves? But in general - the food was not bad but not surprising either. In other words, everything was just so-so, and it was not a place worthy for a second visit.
Would continue with my search for a piggy bun around Centre Street next week.
