I did not know this was a 2nd location of Match Box Cafe but was semi delighted at finding it upon walking back to my place of residence during my visit to Hong Kong. Settle for an egg tart, and an iced Hong Kong milk tea.
The egg tart was of the cookie crust variety, and seemed very mushy overall from the crust to the interior. The crust perhaps had a tad too much moisture inside, so it did not result in a good bite. It wasn't entirely soggy, but it should have some bite, like eating a fresh baked cookie. Didn't have much issue with the egg yolk interior, but it was not very interesting either way.
The iced HK milk tea was pretty standard, but there are certainly better renditions out there.
The selling point of Match Box appears to be the retro style decor, and good variety on the menu (with an emphasis on "retro style" for many dishes), which I find fascinating. Unfortunately the milk tea and egg tart were not remarkable enough for me to desire to return. I can only hope they realise that the food does need some improvement, and that the standards should be higher, especially at the price point.
