We visited on a wednesday night and the place was pretty busy. The method of ordering, though, makes everything easy.We walked in and up to the counter where you pick the toppings for your pizza. We were greeted by the friendly Italian chef who prepared our pizza for us. We chose three toppings (sauce is a topping, as is cheese, so choose wisely!). We chose three toppings (sauce is a topping, as is cheese, so choose wisely!). We opted for a spicy tomato sauce, and spicy salami. We were also delighted that they had scarmoza (think smoked mozzarella). With the three picked, we then headed over to the counter to pay. It was $110 and worth every penny.
Each pizza comes with one cup for the soda fountain, but we just shared it filled with water. The pizza came out freshly baked very quickly and we got stuck in straight away. It was thin and crispy and certainly was more like a Neapolitan pizza than an American one (both excellent in different ways). The super crispy base had the perfect amount of topping and the cheese was melted and ever so slightly golden. The salami was very tasty.
All-in-all, Grano Italiano gave us a very positive experience. The staff were friendly (particularly the two Italians) and the pizza was good. While it isn't the cheapest pizza in town, it isby no means the most expensive either and the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. The true ethic of Italian food is to use a few quality ingredients and don't do too much to them. This is what we got and that is why we will be returning in the near future.
