Friday night is perfect for dinner buffet adventures. After a long strenuous dance rehearsal I feel like I must treat myself with a big satisfying meal. Since I always visit cafe muse for semi lunch buffets, I really want to try the full dinner buffet because the place is actually known for its relatively low and worthy price. One adult costs $228 (+10% service change) on Fridays and weekends, and it's a bit cheaper on weekdays! I was seated at 6:30 which is also the starting time of the buffet
The food station is very small comparing to the buffets you will eat in hotels. There is a tiny salad bar, seafood and sushi bar, hot food bar, noodle bar, carving station and dessert bar.
Four choices of seafood: salmon, shrimp, mussels and sea whelk
On the carving station: rack of lamb and peppered sausage
My first plate
Salad greens: very fresh and crisp. I will be a bit picky and say that the leaves are a bit too big to fit in my mouth so I had a bit if trouble eating it. There is not a lot of variations: iceberg lettuce, radicchio, rocket and other types of mixes lettuce.
Salad toppings and condiments. A lot of choices! I particularly enjoyed the almond flakes, bacon bits and croutons. The Caesar salad dressing was very creamy.
Parma ham. Very very salty, nothing special.
Grilled mushrooms; very rarely seems on buffets. Perfectly cooked with fine texture and flavor!
Fruit salad. One of my favorites. There were lychee, cantaloupe, melon, blueberry, strawberry, apples and peach. Some fruits were canned but the dressing was nice and sweet
There were plenty of staff wandering around, good service and efficient plate clearing/water refilling.
Seafood: the mussels and salmon were pretty exceptional regarding the price for dinner. Salmon was thick and mussels were so fattening juicy!
Mash potato. Served piped and baked. I love the bolognese sauce that it is served on too of!
Eggplant Parmesan. I am a true eggplant fan. The eggplant is very cheesy and nicely cooked
Herb focaccia bread. A bit fry but to flavorful from the herbs
Bean curd wrapped sushi. Love the rice and the the genorous salmon roe salad served on top. Perfect balance
Sweet and sour pork: crispy inside and fatty meaty interior. There are a lot of soft bone inside though, but I will at the whole thing (with the soft bone!)
Steamed fish. It was served whole on the buffet bar. A bit hard to take because you have to flip the fish a ice out the bones eyc. The flavor wasn't strong enough and it was bland and dry
Honey crispy chicken wings. Nothing can go wrong with chicken wings unless you are really extremely hopeless. Love the balance if sweet and saltiness and the skin is nice and crispy
Calamari was yummy
Pumpkin soup: ok. It lacked a bit of pumpkin flavor though. Nice and creamy and served scorching hot.
Pizza. Bad. Not enough cheese in the top and very dry. The crust is no different than the focaccia bread
The crispy thing. Very special and looks pretty with my soup in the picture haha
Ice cream was the only thing I liked in the dessert bar. It was nestle only though. There were two flavors, strawberry and mango, with strawberry and chocolate sauce, rainbow sprinkles, chocolate balls and other toppings.
The desserts were poorly in my opinion. Or maybe I was too full to enjoy it There were purple glutinous rice soup, cheesecake, sponge cake, chocolate mousse, pineapple crumble, profiteroles, coconut pudding, fruits(apple, watermelon, melon) a chocolate fountain and jelly
Purple rice soup was not sweet enough, cheesecake was too heavy and dense, did not try sponge cake because it looks like it was bought in a supermarket and cut up, chocolate mouse tasted like the cream filling in a cheap bun from 7-11, pineapple crumble tasted weird with canned pineapple and a "uncrumbly" crumble topping, profiteroles were soggy and the chocolate was rock hard once a dripped my marshmallows and fruits in it (maybe it was because the of the bad quality chocolate used, it didn't taste good either)
There is a self serve drink bar with hot tea, milk, lemon and sugar
However, the service was really impressive. There is aplenty of staff wandering around to help clear the plates, refill water and refill the food in the counters. The restaurant was a bit noisy and crowded but I think it's not too bad. A super cheap dinner buffet with ok food for the price.
