Chocolate banana ballVerdict: I didn’t like it. In fact, I didn’t like it even before I tasted it. I didn’t like it the moment my fork touched its surface. Why? I was lame enough to have expected a nice, crispy shell, that gave a delicate crack upon the piercing of a fork. So imagine when my fork touched it and I realized it was … soft. No delicate crack. Verdict: I didn’t like it.
I didn’t like it.
But I’m fair. It could redeem itself by tasting amazing.
Did it taste amazing? Not even nearly. The concentration of chocolate was such that it would satisfy neither a dark-chocolate lover nor a milk-chocolate lover.
True, it wasn’t overly sweet. But how lame is that as a compliment for a chocolate dessert? - “ah, well the chocolate taste wasn’t that great, but hey, at least it wasn’t too sweet!” Nope, no mad props there.
Or, to be less harsh, it was a good chocolate dessert, but there are just too many other chocolate desserts that taste better, and are more worth trying.
As for the banana – it was a nice touch. Chocolate and banana are meant to compliment each other well, typical though the combination may be. Yet in this case, the combination was really just typical and mundane. In fact, it seemed like the whole thing was nothing more than chocolate mousse wrapped around a piece of banana. God that sounds lame. It was lame. It lacked layers. It lacked texture. It lacked the wow-factor you’d expect from something presented like a gourmet dessert. There was actually a cake layer, but it was thin and practically undetectable. It was just like the mousse. Oh yay yet more mousse.
And what about the rum? I was told there was supposed to be rum. There was no trace of rum taste.
This is what expectation does. If it’s not met, there’ll be disappointment no matter how good something is. But honestly, this time, it wasn’t because of my expectations – it really wasn’t that good.
The only thing I really tasted, that had a positive impact on one of my five senses, was the physical shape – it was indeed quite tasteful.
