I've been to Townhouse once for lunch and once again for dinner (the second time I was invited by a friend).Townhouse somehow received a lot of 'buzz' early on. On both occasions, the service a little disorganised and frantic. The waiters didn't really know who was in charge of what area and they made a couple of mistakes resulting in delays. Not a big deal but it is something you notice.
Townhouse appears to be trying to do some sort of mild east-west fusion and only succeeds in doing it poorly. The food at Townhouse was disappointing. It looked reasonably well presented, but it tasted bland. Both times I went in search of flavour and found nothing.
As the newest member of the dreaded 'Gaia' group of restaurants, Townhouse reinforces my understanding of their mantra which appears to be: 'style over substance' (probably chanted over and over again at board-meetings).
Without significant improvement, I hope the restaurant will do the honourable thing of dying a quick and painless death leaving room for a better restaurant to be opened in its place.
