I was invited to a small family dinner gathering here, as one of my relatives is a member of the Athletic Club in the same building, and I have never experienced such rude, dismal waitstaff service in Hong Kong. A few things to note:
1. When we were seated down, the waitstaff were noticeably coughing over our heads various times throughout the sitting. They were so reluctant to give us the full that we had to nudge them a few times before they leisurely gave is ONE menu.
2. The tall, young waiter/host (There is only one young male figure working) kicked my chair a few times in addition to carrying on the coughing ensemble.
3. So when it was time to order, and to follow up on the Peking Duck that was concurrently reserved along with seating reservation , the young waiter hassled our party for the club membership number several times. While we did give him the number, it wasn't until he circled around other tables before he finally went back to actually "look up our record". Only until then, the waitstaff reluctantly decided to start serving us. (No Seriously, if nobody in our party had a membership number, how would any of us been able to make a reservation in the first place? Was the extra harassment for the "number" even necessary?)
4. Finally...The food...the Peking Duck was good. Not the best, but definitely decent for what the whole experience leading up to this is worth. The salted fish braised eggplant was also my other favorite. Of course who cannot like Sweet and Sour Pork?
5. I will give credit to the (2) older gentlemen who decided to take care us later, even made sure we had our dessert before we left. Their efforts were divine in contrast with what we experienced earlier, with one of them striking up conversations with us.
Conclusion: The food was satisfactory, but given the time of travel to the venue, and the rude overall impression of the service there, I would not return for another sitting whether a "member" invite me there again or not.
