Been here quite a few times since it opened but this place never left much impression until one lunch time when I was served a surprisingly good sushi set. (considering that after service charge the bill only came to $300 for a set of 16 sushis). Was having lunch with my cousin that day and we were both satisfied by the melty chu-toro, aburi toro and the freshness of all the other neta, most notably the aburi-engawa, anago, and oyster sushis. Was very happy to find that Xenri had improved so m
This time my highly anticipated aburi toro was slightly over-cooked, but overall the fish were still of reasonable quality. By this time I still thought Xenri was much better than most sushi shops in HK of the same price range so I returned again a few days later. Unfortunately, this last time all the sushis were VERY disappointing. As you may see in one of my photos, the toro sushi had a big tendant right across it which made it extremely hard to chew. The maki-type sushis such as the uni and negitoro makis were also wrapped so carelessly that they fell apart as soon as I tried to pick them up. (compare the state of the seaweed in the 1st&2nd time photos with the 3rd!) All the other fishes were also somewhat stale and simply incomparable to my two previous visits.
So I've given this place a score of 3/5 because out of my most recent visits the first time was worth a 5, 2nd time probably a 4, and the last time a 0. After this huge disappointment I'm not sure if I will return unless I'm guarenteed that the quality will be as good as my first visit!
