I love Hainan Chicken Rice! Just as much as I love char siu! So, when I heard about this place called 全日雞實驗所 (English name: All Day Chicken Lab), I went all the way to Sham Shui Po's food court to eat there! But when I arrived, they had sold out. So, I tried again! And again! And again! Each time sold out! Until one day they announced they were closing with a plan to move to another location. Until one day, boyfriend and I decided to just eat the Worfu Food Court in North Point as we didn't know what to eat that day and wanted to just do something close to home. And there it was! ALL DAY CHICKEN LAB! It's back! I was excited. I told boyfriend, I don't need to look any further! I know what I'm ordering!!! GET OUT OF MY WAY!!
Why was it so special? They claim they use a machine to cook their chicken so each part is adjusted at different temperatures and situations as not all parts of the chicken is the same. This method will mean you will get the best tasting chicken no matter which part you order. Word on the street said it was the best in town.
The new stall appears to be bigger than the old stall. And flashier.
The menu is in Chinese only. There is no English and no 10% service charge. But basically they serve Hainan chicken rice sets with a choice of which part of the bird you want at $58 or if you want the thigh, it's $68. They also sell just the chicken and other items as well. The sets come with a bowl of soup, appetizer and soft drink or cold brew oolong tea. It does appear that prices have increased since their move from the Sham Shui Po area. Probably due to increase in rent.
They also served everything in nice dishes with a logo. Unlike previously in Sham Shui Po, it was in disposable dishes and cuterly.
I decided to order the chicken thigh set ($68). It was also plated nicer as well.
The soup was wow. So, good! A rich chicken broth.
The appetizer was sesame cucumbers. Not many places peel of the skin but this place did. It was also really good. The cucumbers were fresh and crunchy. Seasoned well with the sesame oil so it was very fragrant.
Then I came to the rice. Not too oily but an intensely flavored with the taste of chicken. The rice was fluffy and not soggy and clumped together as well.
And now the star. The chicken. It was beautiful to look at. Shiny and glossy. The taste was so good. The meat was juicy and smooth. The skin was not too fat but nicely flavored. They had dipping sauces where the star was the minced ginger as it was so finely minced.
Worth the find! One of the best Hainan chicken rice I've had ever in Hong Kong. And now so close to me, I can go here on a regular basis.
