Decor/Environment & Hygiene:
The restaurant is along the tram line, so it wasn't hard to find at all. The decor style, dark colours and dim lighting was a typical Indian restaurant to me. It was a quiet and comfy place. I apologize for not being able to show you pictures of the environment because of the uploading limit, I rather show you pictures of the food that was ordered. As for hygiene, eveything seemed okay.
Taste & Value:
Below is the Masala Papadam ($21), which was given to us for free. It's a typical Indian starter, but doesn't it look like a tortilla with some salsa on top? Haha I liked that you could taste the lentils and the different spices; this dish was pretty strong in terms of flavours. I thought it was a bit salty, but this was cousin J's favourite of everything that we ate that night. It came the the the 2 typical condiments on the side: a spicy green sauce and a more mellow red sauce. Both sauces were nice.
Tandoori Chicken($88): There were 5 pieces of deliciously cooked chicken on this hot plate. The chicken was flavourful, tender and juicy! You know this can be a risky dish to order sometimes, since the meat can be so dry, but luckily this wasn't the case at all.
We ordered 1 Garlic nann ($21), 1 Paratha ($28, no pitcure unfortunately) and were given 1 Green Onion Naan ($25) for free. All 3 were okay, but I prefer thicker naan and these were all quite thin. As for the paratha, I think more ghee could have been used in the dough and it could have been more discernible. Then, we also ordered one Pullau Rice ($32) to share. I like Indian rice because it's not sticky; I like dry rice. The rice was good, but didn't have much taste. I guess that made it perfect to eat with the entrees. Overall, the entrees were more outstanding than the sides.
The service was excellent. I'm not saying this because we got a lot of freebies, I'm saying this because I could feel that the service was provided from the heart. The owner actually spent time talking to you to see how you liked the food. You could sense that he cared about the quality of the food and what his customers thought for possible improvements.
Final Verdict:
This is a place worth trying. Go check it out.
