Hana, located in the Midtown Building in Causeway Bay, is a Japanese restaurant that I've been curious about. Though the outside looked rather big, inside, it was deceptively so, Yes, it was spacious but they apparently have a tatmi are for larger groups that took up the most amount of space. It also was rather darkly lit. They have a lunch menu that is in English and Japanese. Serving sushi and sashimi sets along with various beef based sets. I decided on the Japanese wagyu A3 suikyaki set ($238). All sets also include a dessert and yuzu tea or coffee. This set also included a salad, miso soup, appetizers and chawanmushi.
The salad was ok. Greens were fresh. Dressing was a bit on the sour side.
Miso soup was tiny but not that remarkable.
The appetizer was some marinated seaweed. It was alright. Nothing really worth a wow factor.
Pickles were cut very pretty. They weren't pickled long enough though.
The chawanmushi was smooth but seemed to be missing the taste of dashi.
The sukiyaki beef pot was a decent size for one. The beef was excellent and simply melted in my mouth. The other ingredients like onions and daikon complimented it well.
It also came with an egg.
I ended with a coffee (which was a very standard Japanese coffee) and dessert. This was a milk pudding. It tasted pretty good. Slightly sweet with a strong flavor of milk. Smooth and a the right amount to end the meal.
The food was fine. Service was good, too. Though the place was a bit dark. But paying $238 for just fine food and not exceptional, I find I can get something better in Causeway Bay for this price. There really isn't anything to complain about but it didn't wow me over either. Really doubt I'd be back.
