There is nothing better than a seafood feast. I always get my seafood fix whenever I’m in Hong Kong because it’s so good and so damn cheap!Kam Shan spans over three floors, two of which are located in the building next door in what looks like a residential space converted into a restaurant. There is nothing better than a seafood feast. I always get my seafood fix whenever I’m in Hong Kong because it’s so good and so damn cheap!

Kam Shan spans over three floors, two of which are located in the building next door in what looks like a residential space converted into a restaurant. It’s always very busy, with lots of locals queuing out the door - a sure sign that you’re in for something pretty amazing.

The seafood is selected from the various tanks in the restaurant - it was all so delicious. The steamed pacific clams with garlic & vermicelli were great and the mantis prawns cooked in garlic and pepper were a bit small but the flavor was spot on. Apart from the great food, what really stood out about the place was the service. Strangely, ALL of the wait staff were middle aged men in their 50s-60s and even stranger was the fact that they were all extremely helpful and attentive - a rarity in Hong Kong, especially in local joints as busy as this one.

Perhaps they were just really keen to sell us beer - because white guys (my partner) drink a lot of beer right? Kidding..not kidding. Every time they brought out one of our dishes they’d say to us, “You should order some beer with that - that dish is sooo much nicer with beer.” I think that they were secretly appalled by the fact that he doesn’t drink beer…a white guy that doesn’t drink beer?

To top off a great meal, Kam Shan offers free dessert, which is red/green bean soup. It’s weird when they don’t rush you out despite the fact they’re so busy. It was refreshing.
