I was invited to try out Pizzaria Jacomax in Sheung Wan one evening. Never having been to this place before, I have walked by it several times whenever I was meeting boyfriend for an art gallery walk. I remember the first time I walked by it was orange in color. It then did a restyling and now the outside is gray with the words "Pizza and EPIC BOOZE". The interior of the place felt more like a bar than the usual pizza restaurant. There is a bar on one side with a decent selection of alcohol. Many of the customers were there for happy hour beer. Their drinks menu was pretty abundant with a wide selection of beer both on tap, regular main stream versions and craft beers. There were also your usual cocktails and some interesting ones that were designed by the owner for those that want to go beyond the cosmo.

I loved the use of the wine bottles as a lamp. Great little design detail.

Along with a serious bar, they had a pizza oven on the other side of the restaurant. I noted that staff made the pizza crusts by hand and each pizza was cooked to order.

Amaretto Sour. Actually, boyfriend had this as I am a super lightweight in the alcohol division. But I took a sip and really liked it. It had a nice balance of sweet and sour. This was pretty good.

Sausage Platter ($185). This was four different sausages. I love sausages so I loved this platter. I'm biased, I know. It came with mustard for dipping (which I didn't use but I don't really like to dip things). The side of salad was ok as salads go. Nothing to get excited about. But the sausages were grilled well and super juicy.

Blue Mussels in Weiss Beer ($139). The mussels were cooked in beer as opposed to the usual French way of using white wine. This gave the mussels a bit of a beer taste. Mussels were fresh and sweet. And for $139, I can say that is actually quite cheap as I make moules marinières (mussels in white wine) a lot. It costs me that much for the same amount at CitySuper, add the price of a drinkable but not too expensive Chardonnay, shallots, garlic and Italian parsley .. this meal I make at home costs me around $200. AND I have to cook it myself plus wash the dishes afterwards. I get this cooked for me and it only costs $139. I'm shocked. The only thing disappointing about was the bread was too soft for dipping the sauce. It needs to be a nice chewy bread like a baguette.

Salmon and Marscapone Pizza ($160). According to the menu, mozzarella was also added. I must confess ... I'm not a fan of salmon on pizza so I didn't really like this pizza. Good points was the crust was crispy. It wasn't thick and chewy like American styled pizza but thin crust pizzas. I, personally, like thin crust pizzas more than thick. The salmon was way too fishy for me to like and it was as I expected. I think the problem is majority of places don't know how to serve cooked salmon properly. If I was making this pizza, I wouldn't have used mozzarella and marscapone. I would have kept it clean by using creme fraiche and dill to offset the fishyness. Perhaps add some arugula to make it fresh and capers to and onions to give it a kick.

Gorgonzola and Apple Pizza ($148). I have two favorite pizza versions. One is pepperoni and mushroom. But if I want fancy snotty pizza, I always choose gorgonzola and apple. I think the first time I had this topping was in Jamie Oliver's London restaurant, Fifteen, and it blew my mind. This was really good with the mix of salty and sweet. I love this taste combination.

Seafood Spaghetti ($148). This had a bit of spice to give it a kick. There was plenty of seafood varities added. Liked the addition of cherry tomatoes to give a tartness that cut into the spice. Pasta was al dente. I like this pasta.

Porcini and Ham Penne ($138). This pasta didn't really work for me. It was much too creamy. There was a lot of porcini slices which was good. But the pasta was over cooked. Combined with way too thick creamy sauce, I didn't like it.

Explosive Volcano ($158). Dessert was the most bizarrre thing I've ever seen. It was four slices of sweet pizza crust that was placed together like a "volcano". It was drizzled with a dark chocolate sauce and served with canned pineapple pieces and a scoop of vanilla gelato. Then, a bit of alcohol was poured on top and lit up. This is one of those desserts that are more for photo taking purposes and Facebook likes. Taste wise, it was just sweet crusts that you eat while dipping away in chocolate sauce and ice cream. A bit like eating chips, I guess. The gelato was ok and I wish there was more of it.

Tiramisu ($75). I was surprised about this one as most places I have tiramisu, it's usually not very good. But this was actually good. Why? They actually soak the lady fingers in expresso. The expresso could have been stronger but I like to have strong coffee. I could also taste a bit of rum when I first bit into it. Oh wow! Other than Grissini at the Grand Hyatt, I haven't had rum in my tiramisu in a long time. The marscapone was whipped to utter cloudlike softness. The chocolate wasn't over powering. Lovely tiramisu.

Interesting place. Would probably return for pizza and an option for casual drinks with friends.
