The crabmeat, compoy and vegetable thick soup depicted in
the menu photo showed big chunky pieces of shredded crabmeat, interspersed with
large quantity of compoy shreds in a green vegetable soup base. What turned up
on the table was the actual reverse, just an entire sea of green and miniscule piecemeal
shreds of crabmeat and even smaller quantity of compoy shreds in the soup
tureen.
The stir fried sliced fish maw with crabmeat and egg in the
menu photo showed big long slivers of fish maw and long shreds of crabmeat stir
fried in a moist fluffy scrambled egg ensemble, appearing as a voluminous mountain
peak. On the table arrived a dish containing super dry granular scrambled egg
intermixed with extremely small cross-sectional sliced slices of fish maw and
small smattering of thin crabmeat shreds. The dish was overcooked and tasted
very dry.
The braised deep fried tofu with shrimp roe was passable. The
gravy had congealed due to the long time it took to arrive at the table.
The sautéed sliced beef with dough fritters as directly
translated to its impressionable chinese desription as “unconventional
eccentric stir fried beef” conjured up an imaginative tasty dish of food. Lo
and behold, a dish of sliced water chestnuts, even smaller slices of a deep
fried dough stick (usually served as an entire long strip with rice congee) was
stir fried with slices of beef. The food quantity was small and the standard of
ingredients used to make the dish did not reflect the price outlayed.
The braised eel with pork belly and garlic was good with big
servings of eel.
All the food that arrived on the table was not piping hot,
no steam heat from the food and evidently the walk from kitchen to customer
table took too long.
The food did not live up to its reputation, arriving big on
presentation plates, small in quantity,
bland in taste and dull in appearance, overall
very disappointing.
