Booked a table of 4 on OpenRice exactly one month prior. On the day of our dinner the waitress called to ask which set or meal we are having, I answered saying I have no idea what your menu is like so how do I know what I will order. She explained if we are having the $1,480 set we will get a “better table” so I asked her to send through the menu. She seemed occupied with other tasks throughout the call and I had to constantly say “hello hello” after I answered her questions as there was no resp
It was 2 friends’ birthdays and I had actually called a week earlier asking what they could do and the waitress that answered was also rude and talked over me before I finished my question. Fine, they can do the usual “HBD xx” on the plate. At the end they spelt my friend’s name wrong but we didn’t bother telling them as we were so fed up with this place already.
We arrived and ordered the $888 set and decided we could add a-la-carte items if we wanted to. Soon after the first dish arrived, we wanted to change tables because the people next to us were simply the wrong crowd. Loud, spitting (literally), drunk and just not whom I want to sit next to when paying $1,000 per head. We asked if we could upgrade to the $1,480 set now since the first dish was the same for every set. Even if we couldn’t finish the food we didn’t want to have to talk over other drunk, swearing and noisy people. Well, of course there was no table available in the “better” area so we didn’t upgrade. But I wonder why the waitress called that afternoon asking if I wanted the $1,480 set with the better table? Would we have been seated at the same place anyway and be told it is already the better table?
The beef was not bad but a little too oily and the rice dish which was the last dish, should really come earlier so we can absorb some of the fat from the beef. Actually talking about rice, one of the $1,480 better tables were our friends and they ordered rice the option for the last dish (you can choose option of rice or noodles at the end) when they sat down but were told that the restaurant had no rice left by the time they got to their last dish! How can a Japanese restaurant not have rice? Especially when they ordered it as soon as they sat down!
Overall service was not much better than all you can eat places like 牛角 but triple the price! The generally professionalism of wait staff were below standard or lacking.
