Like some of the other bars in the area, Bungalow opens for lunch as well, though I rarely go that up the hill for lunch on weekdays.

One shouldn't have stereotyped that bars in the area are noisy and chaotic if he has been here and glanced at the chandeliers hanging up there. With high ceilings and classic light fixtures, together with black and white tiles putting together a spacious dance floor, black leather seats on the two sides don't give you a feeling of being in a club but just a chic french restaurant with a bar.

Big tables are spacious enough to host as many as 5-7 people. Such a cosy and comfortable dining environment makes Bungalow a rare gem for dining in the area. Unless you pay lots more to trade off for better seats, Bungalow beats a lot others simply by high C/P ratio brought by its highly affordable menu.

You will understand how "unbeatable" the pricing is when you notice that mains are mostly around $150-200 and bites are around $100. Not a lengthy menu to look at if you come for dinner, but food comes in a satisfactory variety.

Bread basket was served before meal to bring up our appetite. Two kinds of bread were spotted, both of them being mildly heated and soft and going so well with butter.

Tuna Ribbon $178 - not like pieces of tuna sashimi to get in Japanese restaurant but in strips. Fresh tuna sashimi is worth a try regardless of its shape! More flavourful than mere tuna sashimi because of the highlight brought by creamy and refreshing taste of avocado and lime broth, though I admit that it is somehow a bit pricey if one would compare the price of tuna sashimi at Japanese restaurants and here.

Smoked wagyu brisket $178 - simply from the name of dish, you wouldn't have imagined that it was serving like a lobster roll! A superbly made combination of melting and intensely flavoured wagyu brisket and buttery bun makes it a main course that we would like to encore after the first bite. Beef brisket (牛腩) is frequently cooked in broth in Chinese cuisine, but rarely smoked like this. A nondescript taste of grill together with the robust and unique taste of wagyu makes it so decadent.

Rib eye steak $238 - given this price and the portion, we couldn't ask for more. It would of course be better if it was thicker (willing to forgo surface area) and with less seasonings.

Truffled mashed potatoes $68 - definitely a side dish that one COULD NOT MISS! Many would have taken masked potatoes for granted as they often come along with main courses, but this truffled one can never replace them and worth the extra pay. Aroma of truffle was soooo strong that it kept emanating from the mash, reigning your nostrils and resting on your tastebuds.

Seafood spaghetti $198 - rest assured that it is the best place and timing to consume squid ink spaghetti, as traces left on your teeth wouldn't be easily spotted under dim light! Portion isn't really big but fine for bites, satiating cravings for decadent uni and caviar.

Pear Almond Tart $88 - a classic French dessert to wrap up the dinner, not in a big portion but those having sweet tooth were happy with it. Buttery tart base with tender pear pieces made it a zesty bite and a palate cleanse.

What we encountered on our second visit is quite a different one in sensation - with party vibe as it was the Friday night before Halloween Monday! As expected, this is a perfect venue for parties and spooky decor took over the French fare place.

Unlike quiet and romantic weekday nights, crowds in costumes and drinks flooded the dance floor. We were actually joining Halloween parties after dinner as well.

Lobster roll $198 - it was just a little bit marked up than fastfood-styled lobster roll eatery, but it was truly worth a try, mainly because of its strong buttery aroma of the bun. Lobster pieces in celery and paprika mayo were never enough for our lobster cravings! Together with a large cup of fries, it can really make one feel full as a main course.

Beef short ribs $198 - we were drawn to this because of the word "slow-cooked beef" on the menu and it did not let us down! Tenderness and juice-ful state was maintained at its best state given the slow-cook method. It was as decadent as the wagyu brisket we tried last time although different portions of cows were concerned.

We love especially the thick cut of each piece to showcase how juicy the short ribs were. Nothing to criticise about, in addition to the creamy mashed potato and decently grilled romaine beside and underneath.

Grilled pork chop $208 - portion surprised us more than the taste of duroc pork. Although the part given was rather lean, it wasn't hard to chew as it remained soft and tender after grilling. Braised lentils and caramelised apple pieces gave a boost to the meaty flavour which made this an all-round dish.

Truffle shrimp capellini $178 - tossed with surprisingly clean cream sauce, this dish of angel hair pasta was never so appetising. As many as 5-6 shrimps were spotted, it outperformed seafood spaghetti in squid ink. We loved the texture of angel hair which was cooked just right without being too soft or soaked with moisture.

At first we didn't have much expectation on food in Lan Kwai Fong, but Bungalow somehow changed our perception. Undeniably affordable as it was around $250/head for both visits! We will definitely return before drinking hours in Lan Kwai Fong and even without drinking purpose, it is worth a visit to enjoy the posh French fare.
