Small little place on St. Francis' Yard, tucked away beneath a few steps. Not too many tables, maybe 6 tables each for 2 persons, and the countertop, where we sat. We noticed a lot of people going into the back where there was a private room, there was a guy jamming away with a bunch of people (turns out to be FIS reunion, and I ran into a friend too!) singing karaoke. It wasn't disturbing for the rest of us, unless the doors were opened every so often to let food and people in.

The chimney hood was quiet enough not to disrupt any conversations, but strong enough to keep the smoke away from us too. The sake list was quite decent, and we ordered a small bottle, and they let you choose your cups as it should be.

As for food, we had the angus steak (juicy tender and done to perfection), eel with rock salt (forgot our order the first time but it came quickly enough when we reminded them of it, and it tasted very fresh and the texture was firm), sweet corn (done with skill, not dry at all but still has that slightly roasted texture), gingko (green japanese gingko, OK), eggplant (with bonito, i would have preferred it cooked a little more thoroughly and thus more tender), japanese pumpkin (again, a little on the crunchy side for the thicker slices, though the thin slices were really awesome), chicken wings (juicy, well seasoned, crispy skin), rice balls (wrapped in seaweed, and flavoured with yakitori sauce, brilliant), and a cold inaniwa udon (standard fare). Overall the food was top notch in quality and freshness, and the chef had seasoned everything well without overdoing it, and there was no need to dip any sauce because it all tasted much more original that way. There is also a daily special (homemade fish cake, beef short ribs, snappers, prawns, sake stewed clams etc), and a tempura section.

Service was attentive, plates changed regularly, wine and tea refilled promptly. Quiet enough for small talk between friends.
