It’s another weekend at K-Town! I walked down the harbour front looking for a restaurant to enjoy a lunch on this sunny Sunday. There were many great options, and I was having a hard time deciding. Just then, I passed by a newly opened café with a minimalistic but comforting vibe, filled to the brim with people and even a line outside. Seeing how popular this café was, I immediately lined up to see what the hype was about. Fortunately, the line moved fast and I was seated at a lovely marble tabl
The interior is extremely spacious and you don’t feel confined at all. Everyone is talking excitedly and the echoing voices bouncing off the high walls create a comfortable atmosphere where you can lose yourself in the laughs and chatter of fellow diners.
My companion and I had a hard time choosing dishes, because everything sounded delicious. Finally, we ordered and the food arrived within 5 minutes.
First was a cappuccino with oat milk. It wasn’t bad, but also wasn’t anything exceptional.

Next came sourdough rye with salted butter and fig jam. The sourdough was wonderfully chewy with a crispy crust and a complex flavour. You also won’t believe how well butter and fig jam goes together! However, the bread was cold and slightly hardened; it would have been ten times better heated.

Then came the main dishes. First up was the spiced chicken salad, a dish that I saw was very popular. The presentation was beautiful and I was excited to try all the different components. To my disappointment, the chicken was very bland. Although it was juicy and tender, there simply wasn’t enough flavour! Don’t get me wrong, there is a strong taste of herbs and cumin, but since when do those seasonings alone flavour a piece of meat? Not a single grain of salt had graced the chicken, and even the slice of lemon helped little to make it enjoyable. The salad on the other hand was slightly better. As an experienced avocado expert, this avocado was up to my high standards: perfectly ripe and full of that buttery, rich avocado taste. The rest of the salad comprised of kale tossed oil, currants, pistachios, slivered almonds, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers. It was topped with a dollop of greek yoghurt (full fat by the way! infinitely better than fat free, try it and you’ll never go back), scattered grains of wild rice (very hard and tough) and a smear of green hummus (meh). The flavour was a solid “good” given the many textures but lacking a flavourful dressing.

My companion ordered another popular dish: Beef Benedict on sourdough rye. I can’t provide an accurate analysis of this dish, but I did take a few bites so I can give my semi-reliable opinion. The pulled beef, like the chicken, was juicy but lacked any real taste apart from herbs and cumin flavours. The hollandaise was okay, but the egg was poached perfectly.

Although the food fell short of expectations, I love the chill atmosphere too much! I’ll be back to try some meatless dishes that hopefully won’t disappoint.
