We made a reservation from like a MONTH prior to today in order to get a table... HA.I was really excited about coming to the Verandah because I recalled excellent choices in buffet and delicious cheeses and desserts.. Well today, the saturday lunch buffet was a total disappointment. The quality in the salad/appetizer bar was laughable.. the choices were not appealing at all either. All this feeble attempt at malaysian-european (???) fusion. The satays were dried out, limp and sad.. the chicken

The quality in the salad/appetizer bar was laughable.. the choices were not appealing at all either. All this feeble attempt at malaysian-european (???) fusion. The satays were dried out, limp and sad.. the chicken curry was unbelievably greasy. Cheese platter= NONEXISTENT?? The only considerably edible options were the marinated artichokes, which were quite nice and not too acidic. The romaine lettuce was fresh too.
The main course was also a total, total disappointment. My mom got the miso-glazed halibut, which came out looking sad, soggy and white. No colour on it whatsoever.
My dad got lamb with lentils- lamb was cooked well to be fair, nice and tender. However, the lentils were mushy and the mint jelly served with it was absolutely poisonous.
I got roast spring chicken with breaded bananas- what?? yuck! There was no reason to pair the two together in the dish whatsoever! the bananas were sour and soggy and didn't go with the chicken at all- well maybe other than the fact that they were both soggy and limp. The chicken was rubbery and salty..
ALL THREE of the main dishes were presented like school-lunch food or food court sets, with steamed or boiled asparagus, carrots... you know the sort. Nothing like something that would be served in a hotel like the Peninsula.
The dessert options were few and far between- desserts well prepared even fewer. The 'Rich chocolate tart' had a very nice, silky bittersweet interior but the shortcrust base was SPONGY and SOGGY. huge disappointment.
The tiramisu was nowhere near authentic- no ladyfingers used, just some weirdo vanilla sponge base soaked in watered-down coffee.
Cassis mille-fuille- acceptable- JUST.
Malai-koh- an absolute FAILURE. Cheap dim sum restaurants do better on creating this malaysian dessert. It was rubbery, spongy and dry- a recurring pattern with all the food I had at the Verandah today.
Bill came out as 1300+ for 3 people- a COMPLETE waste of time, money and calories on my birthday... huge huge huge disappointment.. I want my money back. Please do yourself a favour and go treat yourself somewhere else.
P.s. the petit fours we got with coffee we ordered were DISGUSTING too- the biscuits were soggy and floury, tasted like it was made 3 days before or something.
