Quite a hike from my stop on Nathan Road at Tsim Sha Tsui, I found myself on the second floor of yet another shopping mall in bustling Hong Kong getting a balcony table at Gordon Ramsey’s London House. Undecided about what my stomach craves for, the set meal was an easy choice to make. Requested a Ginger Ale to quench my thirst, I looked out the veranda half happy with the green foliage fronting the restaurant and Victoria Harbour night lights winking at me. The ungarnished glass cold with ice cubes seemed to be really unpretentious. I sipped through the black plastic straw eavesdropping from the tables around. Then came the trio of appetizers lined on a wooden block. Never a fan of Prosciutto, I savored it’s delicately cured saltiness and spit out the not chewable, definitely not swallow-worthy fat. The Tomato Bruschetta was perfect in its sweet-tangy flavor and mildly crunchy base. What made me wanting for more was the BBQ Chicken Wing embellished with spring onion and coriander. Before the last two bites of the starters, the main course was served— a thick rack of Slow Cooked Pork Ribs glistening with its reddish glaze contrasting the color of spring onions and coriander on top of it. The plate was served with a half-full cup of red cabbage and carrot slaw. The meat wasn’t at fall-off-the-bone expectation however it wasn’t dry either. The vegetable side seemed to be lacking some kick but still crisp to the tooth. I had to order a glass of water at this point since I wasn’t served or offered one. Just several bites from the meat I felt like asking for dessert. Not wanting to waste the meal and not knowing what to do with it, I requested the server to wrap it up for me and be given my dessert. A dollop of Chocolate Orange Mousse with Caramel Popcorn sprinkle was dished out. Creamy, chocolatey, and not too sweet, I scraped the plate to the very last taste of it. Doubtful if I was satisfied with my dinner I headed to my apartment’s shuttle service pick up point to take me back home carrying a takeaway bag of my main course.
