On this day that me and 3 of my buddies decided to stroll around HK Island, we stopped at Oolaa for lunch because we had heard good things about it. Environment & Hygiene:It had quite a cozy and spacious environment. The 4 of us were seated at a table that could at least sit 6-8 people. Service was decent. The staff were helpful.
Taste & Value:
The lunch set was an amazing deal. For $148, you can get soup or visit the salad bar once, a main plus a dessert! Add $20 more for coffee/tea/ soft drink.
Here are the 4 sets we got:Soup of the Day 1: Pea & Potato Soup with Bread. The soup was flavourful and quite herby. My buddies were not too fond of the herbs. They commented that it tasted too Indian.
Soup of the Day 2: Mushroom Soup with Bread All of us prefered this soup over the other. It was flavourful as well, and you could taste the freshness of the mushrooms. It was no Campbell mushroom soup.
Salad Bar Visit X 2 The salad bar had different kinds of fresh greens, pasta salads, veggies, cheese and coldcuts etc.
Surprisingly, the quality of the salad bar was quite high, and everything at the bar was very tasty. We were already full after finishing the soup and salads.
Main 1: Black Angus Beef Burger This burger was good. The beef was juicy and the mushrooms on top of the patty were so delicious! The fries on the side were also amazing. They were so crispy and crunchy! Loved them!
Main 2: Chicken and Prosciutto Roulade This was my least favourite main of the 4 because I don't like goat cheese and prosciutto. The chicken was a little dry and inside of it was the very strong goat cheese. The orzo on the side was flavourless and tasted like pre-packaged stuff.
Main 3: Pumpkin & Asparagus Risotto The risotto was al dente and was lovely with the pumpkin. It was also very cheesy thanks to the parmesan cheese. It was a nice dish.
Main 4: Pan fried Salmon Fillet The salmon was cooked perfectly with the centre lightly uncooked, so it wasn't dry whatsoever. The spice-filled lentils underneath were also tasty, and was a nice change from the usual carbs. I can't imagine having to finish this very filling dish alone though, even hough it was my favourite of the 4 dishes.
Dessert 1: Cinnamon Peach Bread & Butter Pudding X2 This dessert was okay. Nothing outstanding about it, but the ice cream was good. Me and buddy D prefered this more though.
Dessert 2: Mini Pavlova X2 I didn't like this too much as the meringue was too sweet and chewy. The berry sauce was not bad though; slightly acidic but sweet at the same time. The other 2 buddies liked this more though. Ha.
Final Verdict:The food was good, but we were so full afterwards!!!! How do they expect one person to eat such big portions. I'd go again on a very hungry day! Haha.
