This was possibly my favourite dish of the night. The bread was thin and fried until perfectly golden and crispy, without being oily at all. The beef was tender and juicy, and immersed in boiling, rich broth.

I always feel that the essence of this noodle is the soup, which I prefer to be rich in peanut taste and slightly thick in texture, without too much bright red chilli oil afloat on top. This was almost exactly how I like it. The peanut taste of the soup was satisfying (though it could improve by being even stronger), and bits of peanuts could be found, enriching the texture of the soup as well. It wasn’t overly spicy either. The noodles themselves were thin, white strands that were neither too hard or too soft.

I’m always skeptical about the quality of xiaolungbaos, even at the most high-end shanghai restaurants. Hence, I was impressed when I found that these were of a reasonably high standard, with juicy and flavoursome pork filling, and sufficient amounts of unoily broth, contained within thin, translucent skin.

These buns were named well - they were indeed rather like 鰻頭, because the bread was quite thick, and the filling was a bit small. Actually, there overall size was small. But, luckily, they were fried well and I found the slightly sweet taste of the bread to be unexpectedly yummy, especially together with the sesames on top.

This was a bit too spicy for me - as it should be! It was a beautiful, dark fiery red, with chillies galore. The fish was also soft and tender, but my fellow diner complained there was too little of it (even though I wasn’t able to eat much and left it all for him…). Though of course it wasn't as authentic as ones sampled in regions of Mainland China, it was nice nevertheless.

This final dessert dish was the only disappointing one, for me. I disliked the inadequacy of the filling, and also found the main egg-white-bodies to be insufficiently light and fluffy. Without the right level of fluffiness, it was rather akin to eating steamed bread/cake. I was also disappointed that the restaurant no longer served the almond version of this dessert, as I was looking forward to trying it… boo.

Being generally quite pleased with the meal, I definitely intend to revisit this restaurant. Considering the good quality of the dishes I had already tried, and liked, I believe there are still plenty more dishes that would be worth trying. What’s more, I find the pricing to be extremely reasonable.
