I have to be perfectly honest first. I am not a steak lover, never been one to begin with so steakhouses are not exactly my favourite type of restaurants. However, having tried BLT Burger for a couple of times, I have started to develop some admiration for this franchise and I thought I should give its sister store a chance to enlighten my world of delicious food.
It was a weeknight but you won't know it from the turn-out at the restaurant, as the tables, partcularly ones adjacent to the window were nearly packed. Of course, right when we made the reservation weeks ago, we have already requested a table with window seat so no problem for us there.
Right after we placed our orders, our server brought along four Yorkshire pudding-like bread for us and they were huge (see photo)!
Crab cake (Grade: 3/5)
We started our night off with something a bit lighter first - crab cake. We were hoping for two pieces of crab cakes so we could share among 4 people but our wish did not come true (more on this later).
Back to the taste of the dish....the crab cake was fried to a point where the crust was a bit hard on the outside but no complaints with the inside which was stuffed full of blue crab meat.
Roasted kangaroo loin (Grade: 4/5)
This was a no-brainer for us. Grilled kangaroo loin was not something we would see on the menu everyday, so when we saw it, we decided to make the most of the opportunity.
The kangaroo meat, cooked medium rare was very juicy and it had a very distinct taste which reminded me a bit of lamb.
Wagyu beef (8oz) (Grade: 3.5/5)
We could not possibly claim to have dined here without trying one of the BLT steaks. Out of their many different types of steak, we decided to try their Australian wagyu steak. As expected, it was very juicy and tender and the seasoning was just perfect.
Lemon-rosemary chicken (Grade: 3/5)
We could easily taste the vigor of lemon juice in the sauce and it meshed perfectly well with the rosemary, all of which absorbed nicely into the meat of the chicken. The portion however could have been a bit more generous as it only consisted of half of a small chicken. We had to literally fight for bits and pieces of that chicken (A bit exaggerating there, but you get the point).
Acacia Honey Marinated Alaskan Black Cod (Grade: 3/5)
Having eaten so much meat all night, we decided to add something from the sea. We picked black cod over a bunch of other fishes simply because of its naturally rich flavour and delicate texture. It was a good choice with the honey complimenting the cod fish nicely but once again, the portion was a bit small for a main course.
It has been an enjoyable evening for us. Great harbour view, accompanied with good food and wonderful people. The only blemish of the night was probably the size of the dishes. They were a bit small even for fine dining standard. Now, when I came to think about it, it explained why they provided such large-sized bread for us right before the meal in the first place.
