My family and I have a long, fond relationship with Thailand, its wonderful people and amazing food...so we were ecstatic to learn this new Thai restaurant had arrived right on our doorstep in Sai Ying Pun and we are very happy to report we thoroughly enjoyed the food.Given that many of the Thai restaurants in Hong Kong have sadly been dumbed-down over time to cater for local \ gweilo taste-buds, I can happily report that the food at Krua Walaiphan has an authentic kick to it and it is clearly
Given that many of the Thai restaurants in Hong Kong have sadly been dumbed-down over time to cater for local \ gweilo taste-buds, I can happily report that the food at Krua Walaiphan has an authentic kick to it and it is clearly great produce packed with all the amazing flavours that are so prevalent in Thai food.
Last night we ordered 10 dishes;
3x Starters (Tua Tort, Tod Man Pla and Pok Peiya Tod)
3x Salads (Som Tum Thai, Kor Moo Nam Tok and Laab Moo)
3x Mains (Moo Ping, Gai Yang, Gaeng Ped Gai)
and then finally a Pad Thai
Each of the dishes were beautifully presented, very authentic in taste and we all finished the meal with a resounding "WOW that was good"...which we haven't done in a Thai restaurant in HK for some time.
Our favourites were the Som Tam, the Pork skewers, the Chicken thighs and the Red curry.
The Som Tam was spicy but packed full of flavour and the salad was fresh. The pork skewers were tender and beautifully seasoned and the dipping sauce was fantastic.
The Red Curry was thick and creamy and packed full of chicken and vegetable and was so fragrant. Then finally those Chicken thighs were to die for and I had a hard time not drinking the dipping sauce straight from the bowl
We will be back again for sure and I would highly recommend the food to anyone else who are passionate about their Thai food. It really is as good as anything we've had in Thailand.
