One of the favorite things I like to have at the Tsujiki Fish Market in Tokyo are the shops that sell tamagoyaki. You may scoff, a rolled egg? Why would there be actual shops selling this. Some of them known to be selling this for centuries.  Because the tamagoyaki is one of those items that you may think is easy to make but when made properly, it's a joy to have. Lovely warm and fluffy egg.I heard about this place among foodies who mentioned this place that served tamogayki. Much like the shops

I heard about this place among foodies who mentioned this place that served tamogayki. Much like the shops in Japan. But it was located in Tsuen Wan. Quite a distance from where I live. But I had to find it!

Located in an alley, is this small take away only shop. It is open late afternoon. Curiously, this alley also had a lot of other small take away only eateries. What an interesting discovery!

The shop had a display of what they sold. But these were artificial.

Menu displayed a variety of different fillings from savory to sweet along with just no filling at all. You can choose hot or cold and it costs around $30. Each is made to order so there is a wait time of about 20 minutes for hot and 10 minutes for cold. They inform you this when you order so go take a walk around this lovely area of Tsuen Wan filled with other foodie things and come back.

Once your order is ready, they inform you to let it wait a few minutes before opening the lid as they shot some smoke into it. This will allow some time to give it a smokey flavor. I observed packaging was good quality as this was made of sturdy plastic cover and a cardboard with wax coating.

Seaweed and Mentaiko ($32). We chose this as it was our favorite filling. Size was pretty good. Not too big and not too small. We got at least 6 thick slices from it.

Filling was generous. We ordered this hot and the egg was soft and fluffy.  I didn't taste any smoke flavor but maybe it was due to the  taste of nori and mentaiko was too strong so covered it up.

Diced Apple ($27). We also chose a nontraditional flavor. And sweet one as well. This we chose to have it served cold.

Perhaps the taste of apple wasn't as overpowering as mentaiko, it caused me to really taste the smokiness. This was something I didn't like as it really didn't go well with apple. It was also a bit odd having egg with apple. Definitely not recommend this one.

Stick to the traditional flavors as it really is quite good.  Wait time is a bit long but each is made to order. I'm not sure why they need to add smoke as it really doesn't add much benefit to the snack. But yes, I'll be back.
