Came here for dinner with my wife as it was my birthday dinner and I love Indonesian food. Wait staff was friendly and helpful, some points there but everything else was pretty much down hill after that....We ordered 2 mains, 4 starters.... Please note that I am a chef, so the following is coming from my professional perspective... Drinks arrived first, which is normal. We ordered 2 mains, 4 starters.... Please note that I am a chef, so the following is coming from my professional perspective... Drinks arrived first, which is normal. Then came my wife's main, which was banana leaf wrapped grilled sardine with sambal. The spice level was nice which the waitress had warned us on, but the fish itself seamed dried out. Looks as though the pre-grilled this and then reheat to order... The oddest thing was the main came first, then the starters slow started coming in...
Tempe goreng - greasy and thickly over battered another premade and refry
satay kamping - marinade overly sour for some reason... worst part of all my wife found a staple in her food, no harm no foul, so I didn't make a big fuss about it even though I could have.. I noticed the server was looking at the staple as I left it right in the middle of the plate with food particles still on it, and no response or acknowledgment..
tofu stuffed with fish meat and sambal- this dish was not bad, although the Indonesian version of fish meat paste has a lot of binders in it some form or flour or cornstarch, so don't expect anything similar to the Chinese style fish paste. the addition of the sambal was tasty but nothing to write home about
then came my main the kuay teow goreng - it's a childhood favorite, it was ok in terms of flavor but not what you would normally get from a Indonesian restaurant... seems like they wanted to do the Chinese style instead, also a bit greasy
finally came the Salad? yes the salad came last : don't know what kind pacing is going on back there or do they only have 1 chef back there doing everything, seemed like the food was being turned out a little slow looking at the other tables.
last dish was the tofu salad, I gotta say this was the best dish, peanut sauce, fried tofu, deep fried strands of eggs, and of course kekap manis. I would probably come back for this had it no been for the last incident...
while clearing another table the runner dropped the plates and peanut sauce and chilli had splattered onto my back shoulder, my hands, and head and some on my face ... no big deal accidents happen. what made me upset and will never comeback to the restaurant is due to the wait staffs reaction... they played it of as though it was funny laughed it off at first and joking around, which is ok. however their first reaction would have been to see if any of the customers got splattered with the stuff that fell...🤦. not until after they cleaned did they come over and saw that I was wiping myself with with tissue did they say anything... just a have hearted apology. no offer of discount, or comp, nothing. terrible service in my opinion.
please note we used to eat this restaurant in 2017 and 2018 and enjoyed it very much, but seems like things have gone downhill... not sure if it changed owners as the whole atmosphere was very different from what it was back then... will never ever comeback, no thanks to staples in my food.
