There's something about small, hole-in-the-wall eateries that give it an authentic "local" vibe. And by local here, I mean Thai. The fish cake was sharply tangy on its own but is balanced by the sweetness of the sweet chili sauce. The shrimp cake, unfortunately, was not exceptionally remarkable. I liked the texture - crunchy and flaky on the outside, soft on the inside; but as far as flavours go, I've had better. One of the waitresses recommended the Khao Pha Kaprao Moo which is fried minced beef with basil, garlic and chilies and is served with plain rice and fried egg. She asked me how spicy I wanted it to be and I'm glad I only asked for medium spice because I tell you, it was very spicy! And in spite of the slightly burning sensation that my tongue experienced, every spoonful was bursting with flavourful goodness. The play of texture and sensation in my mouth was amazing - the tenderness of the beef, the runny egg yolk, the crunchy bits of chopped string beans and chilis. Add to that the calming aroma of basil and I'm in food heaven. We also had some green chicken curry which although was good, has nothing compared to the Khao Pha Kaprao Moo. For cheap, satisfying, delicious Thai food, Thai Hut is the place to go.
