I personally didn't like eating Indian food that much because I wasn't used to the strong spices tastes! However, I overcame my comfort zone yesterday and tried Indian food in a food tasting campaign. I NOW can tell you that I love Indian food!!!!! I really do!! This restaurant, The Clay Oven, changed my mind of Indian cuisine!!!! Once I stepped inside the restaurant, I smelled the typical Indian spices. Once I stepped inside the restaurant, I smelled the typical Indian spices. I told myself in mind at once, "They make real Indian food!" The other things that got my attention was the Indian paintings on the walls. They are very traditional Indian paintings! Very beautiful! The decoations inside the restaurant are simple but elegant!
My husband and I were not sure what to order, so we asked for some recommendation from the waiter. He was a super nice guy and was willing to tell us the details of the dishes.
Ok, go to the dishes that we ordered!
This is a basket of the Indian crackers and vegetable patties. They are very tasty! The patties were not greasy at all but very crunchy!!!! The inside was potato and peas! not bad to start, right?!
Those were the dipping sauces for the vegetable patties and the Samosas! Green Mint Chili Sauce, and Turmeric Sauce. I like the mint one much better!
Butter Chicken may sound different to you! but it wasn't buttery or greasy at all!!!! It is rather a creamy and a little spicy tomato sauce with Indian spices. and the chicken is BBQ chicken tight chunks. It was spicy at first, and then the sweetness of the tomato came in. and the chicken had the smokey flavor! very good combination! a very complex flavor indeed!
Creamy Spinach Sauce with Cheese. The waiter highly recommended it and I was kinda skeptical about it! maybe the color didn't attact me and i was worried about the taste! But, it turned out to be my favorite dish of the night! The cheese was like the fresh buffalo cheese. very creamy but didn't have a strong cheese taste! The spinach was so creamy and the spices in it were not too strong. It also has some fresh ginger so it was a surprised when I bite into a small piece of fresh ginger. The flavor of it was very interesting!!! The flavor seems mild but all of the sudden, it will give you a spicy surprised!
This pancake is crispy and thin! It was perfect for eating with the butter chicken and the spinach sauce. Freshly baked in the clay oven and came out with the perfect texture! super amazing! I was surprised that it wasn't salty but a little bit sweet! maybe the sweetness goes better with the spicy sauce!
I really love that quote which was on the table, "A Guest Must Be Treated As God!" That's why everyone in the restaurant was so friendly and nice!
This Indian spices treasure box is for after meal! It includes whole cumins, mixed spices with dried orange or lemon peels, and some candies.
The Lamb Biryani was wonderful! the lamb was super soft and tender. the owner told me that they used the lamb from New Zealand! and the meat in the rice was the meat from the leg of lamb. The rice was full of indian spices and with different vegetables. It has a nice spicy hot flavor. Pretty good taste!
A nice vessel for water! It did make the meal even more authentic! Little things do count! I will definitely come back and highly recommend it to everyone!!!! What a nice experience trying outstanding Indian dishes!
題外話/補充資料：
The owner is super nice! He loves to tell you about India and his food! For a person like me who doesn't know much about indian food, his friendly introduction for his dishes did help me to understand and appreciate the complexity of Indian dishes!
