First off, the tea cup was not resistant to heat at all (this is seriously so basic ANY Japanese restaurant’s cups are wayyyy better) so you have to wait until the tea turns cold before drinking which was a tad annoying, but this was obviously the least of the problems this restaurant has. When we were ready to order, there was no bell on the table and no staff nearby. Like do they expect you to either hope one of the waitresses will walk around soon or go find them yourself? When we finally got
When we finally got to ordering, this middle-aged waitress said it’s Japanese custom that you can’t order a-la-carte items after ordering meal sets which is absolute bs as I’ve visited countless Japanese restaurants at all price points and been to Japan myself but have never encountered such a thing. Still going along with this crap since it’s the food we’re interested in trying, I asked her the kinds of meat the platter came with since the menu states there are several types. She said some Japanese term and when asked what it meant, she kept repeating the same Japanese term in a very rude manner and refused to explain further, as if everyone is supposed to know. I was very fed up with this behaviour as I did nothing to deserve being treated this way, but since I didn’t come alone, we just ordered some a-la-carte dishes to share and hoped to go elsewhere afterwards to complete the meal.
It’s worth noting that if you need to use the washroom, you must ask for a key and the inside is cramped and filthy.
Finally, the meat that we’ve been meaning to try arrived. It was soaked in WAY too much oil and difficult to digest. At over $400 for a single dish and with just a few pieces of meat, there are plenty of better options out there. You can bet that we will not be visiting this place a second time.
