I've wanted to go to BLG for a while now. I had heard they had amazing deep fried pork cutlet sandwiches and ever since I was a child eating leftover schnitzel sandwiches, I have been in love with fried pork on bread.Pictured: only half of the sandwich. The pork cutlet was really good. Quite tender and flavorful and juicy. Breaded nicely, genuinely crispy, and super hot right out of the deep frier. A truly impressive deep fried piece of pork.

BLG is known for their bread. It's Danish bread by way of Japan by way of Hong Kong. To imagine what it's like, imagine a buttery croissant. OK, you're done. That's what it is.  I personally thought it was a little too heavy for a sandwich that also happens to feature a large deep fried hunk of meat on it. But maybe what I should say is, where's the bacon?

So, great pork cutlet, OK bread-- I still did not like the sandwich. For me, it was ruined by the sauce. I go easy on my condiments. The chefs at BLG? Not so much. The first thing you have to understand is that the sauce is extremely sweet. Like if ketchup and coca-cola had a baby, and then proceeded to feed that baby nothing but candy for its whole life. Then it's slathered all over, so much so that the famous bread is soggy and falling apart at the bottom (you can start to see this in the photo, and this is right when I got the sandwich). Even after scraping off as much of it as I could, it was still intensely sweet.

My recommendation? "No sauce." At least for the Western palette.
