Retro decor and toast with baked pork chop rice seems to be the latest trend recently for cha chaan tengs in HK. I haven't had the chance to check out the one in CWB yet but I happened to pass by Law Mark Kee near work which serves the toast with baked pork chop rice as well so I decided to come here for lunch with some colleagues. The decor inside the restaurant was very retro and colorful with old telephones and lamps as decorations. These old-design window frames were placed in front of mirrors which were nice to look at.

Even the front of the menu looked like an old school notebook of some sort.

The menu consisted of conventional cha chaan teng items like stir-fry eggs and instant noodles as well as more creative dishes like the toast with baked pork chop. The milk tea with red bean ice also caught my eye. The 3 of us then ordered several of the must-try items to share.

Milk Tea with Red Bean Ice ($35) - not only was the bottom of the milk tea filled with red bean, there were also ice cubes made of milk tea and red beans which were a nice touch! In that way, the milk tea doesn't get diluted when the ice cubes melt. The milk tea was enjoyable to drink while the red beans were sweet and soft to eat. It was like a drink and dessert at the same time.

Beef Noodles in Tomato Soup ($38) - some parts of the beef were a bit tough to eat. The instant noodles were nice and chewy while the tomato soup was slightly sweet, which was pleasant to drink. It would have been better if the broth was hotter though.

Dried Noodles with Homemade Chili Chicken Wings ($50) - the chili chicken wings were a bit weird as the chili aspect only came from some pepper flakes sprinkled on top of the wings while the rest of the wings were marinated with sweet soy sauce. The flavors were not infused together and didn't work together very well. There were also not that much meat on the wings. The noodles were just instant noodles mixed in sweet soy sauce. As I found the flavor of the wings to be a bit weird, perhaps just regular chicken wings would have been better.

Giant Toast Over Baked Pork Chop with Rice ($75) - the dish we were all looking forward to! I was very curious about this dish as I didn't know how the toast would work with baked pork chop. It looked massive with a toast cube holding rice inside while topped with slices of pork chop and tomato sauce. At first, we didn't know the best way to eat it so we just decided to scoop out the pork and rice, and ate those first. The pork was just alright as it wasn't very tender or flavorful. The tomato sauce was not memorable either. I then cut out a side of the toast to try it. The toast was slightly crunchy but too thick and hard to eat comfortably with the pork and rice. I think the toast would have been better if it was lighter and flufflier as there was simply too much carbs in this dish. The toast and pork chop with rice also didn't gel together that well as they just felt like 2 separate dishes jammed together unlike the honey toast dessert which has a similar concept. Not sure if I get the point of this dish.

Overall, I found the food to be just average here at Law Mark Kee. The drinks were better so perhaps it would make a good afternoon tea place as the decor was fun to look at. The service was adequate but since we were here for the busy lunch crowd, we felt rushed at times as the staff seemed overly eager to clear our dishes.
