Before I talk about how service can be improved, let me talk about the not so pleasant environment first.Although quite nicely decorated, the cafe has no windows, which means all sound is trapped in the room. The cafe is very noisy even with three tables. Imagine how deafening it would be full house. Although quite nicely decorated, the cafe has no windows, which means all sound is trapped in the room. The cafe is very noisy even with three tables. Imagine how deafening it would be full house. This would not be a good place to chat with your friends.
During the first half of our meal, we were the only table. We could clearly hear how loudly the staff were chatting and CONSTANTLY SWEARING in Cantonese with colleagues, which is quite unprofessional. Chatting with each other is not a problem, because the staff are not preoccupied 24/7 and are quite free when there is only our table. However, swearing constantly and loudly that customers can hear is unprofessional.
Moreover, as we were the only table there, the staff were quite free. Still, they were very passive and took more interest in chatting with their friends.
On too of that, when the staff handed out the forks for our table, she held the handle, then flipped the fork over to hold the prongs when putting it in front of each of us. We were so mindblown because she repeated the same process for each of our forks. It is common sense to hold only the handle of the fork, not the prongs of the fork that would come in contact with customers’ food, especially in times of COVID.
The food was quite good, but we were left a bad impression by the service and the environment. The mentaiko spaghetti was very rich, but the risotto was very bland.
