I have been vegetarian for all of my adult life, since before I could choose what to eat. Consequently my pizza options have been rather limited. Cheese, margarita, mushroom, vegetarian, (and for a couple of years it was possible to buy a quorn and baked bean pizza in the U.K. but alas, no more). So a visit to Pizza Veg has been on my to-do list since I first found out about its existence a year or so back. A pizza shop dedicated to vegetarian pizza?! Why isn't there one of these in every town?I

I arrived in the evening after a few hours of walking to build up an appetite and panicked with confronted with so much choice! I chose the medium curried potato pizza, I'm not sure why, I like potatoes and curry and I like pizza. The others which tempted me were the vegetarian meat pizza, the BBQ pizza and the Mexican pizza. I think actually they might have been better choices but I can always visit again if I'm in the area.

The staff member who served me seemed either perplexed or panicked by me, perhaps they don't get so many caucasians out in the sticks ordering vegetarian pizza, but apart from being over friendly and smiling a disconcerting amount it was fine.

I dined in and shortly after I ordered I got a table-mate (for that authentic HK experience), his food arrived before my pizza but I guess the baked rice is quicker to heat up. My pizza arrived after about ten minutes and was well cooked with the cheese on the crust just starting to crisp.

I could smell the curry flavour before eating, it was that yellow curry that is used a lot for the curried potatoes you find at most vegetarian shops here, luckily I've acquired a taste for the stuff. The toppings were quite evenly spread, especially the green peppers and pineapple, the 'chicken' cubes and chunks of potato wedges were a bit spare but almost enough. The cheese used was of the very mild variety which is favoured here but it had some flavour where it had crisped a little. The base was substantial, maybe more substantial than I normally enjoy, about an inch thick and doughy, but to be honest I was so hungry that I appreciated the extra bulk. If I were to go again I think I would choose the BBQ pizza, I've never had BBQ pizza! I would also take a friend so that we could take advantage of the meal deals which seem to be really very good value.

I reckon that if you're a fan of authentic Italian pizza then you should probably give this a miss. However, any long-term vegetarian would almost definitely appreciate this place.
