For a Hong Kong dessert place, there are not much options here, probably because most people come here either for the molten chocolate cake or waffles. Other choices include their (tiny) egg pudding and tofu pudding with variations. we ordered: Tofu Fa with Strawberries + coconut milkThe coconut milk was actually NOT my choice. we ordered:
Tofu Fa with Strawberries + coconut milk
The coconut milk was actually NOT my choice. They just gave it to me... I looked at the menu again and saw that there was a choice of coconut or mango sauce...but it would have been nice if the person who took my order asked me if i wanted either or any at all! I would actually have preferred plain with syrup and fruit...but this was not bad so we just ate it.
The tofu fa itself was actually like eating soft tofu - not silken as it was not smooth at all! The curd was set very 'hard' so it's much heavier than regular tofu-fa...I wonder if this is their intention? But their menu says 'tofu fa'...Anyhow, strawberries were fresh and coconut milk had syrup added to it so it was more liquid, not heavy, and gave flavour to the tofu pudding.
Hazelnut waffle
This took a longer time as it was made-to-order. It looked amazing - esp with the 'sugar' dusted on the plate. Aesthetically this was pleasing - the had also cut up the waffle (one piece) and stacked it nicely with the scoop of chocolate ice cream on top. How about to the palate?
Well the waffle itself was hazelnut-flavoured, true to its name. It was also surprisingly light - not anything like belgian waffles or the ones in flying pan for that matter. The lightness of the batter reminded me of the egg-waffles from good street vendors. I also appreciated the crispness - even the last piece at the end was still slightly crunchy. The ice cream however, was very bad. For $3X I would've expected either more waffles or better ice cream to go with the single waffle, however the ice cream was so light it tasted like the cheap variety or frozen mousse.... C'mon even Dreyers would be better!
So i guess the only reason I would come back is for their light and crispy waffles but nothing else really entices me here.
