Was cleaning out an office drawer and came across my membership card. Came to this restaurant a lot when it first opened many years ago. Was interested to revisit, especially during crab season, and to see if its Michelin ⭐️ was well deserved. Also interested to see how it compared to Shanghai club (which we just visited recently).Dinner in the private room. Here’s what we had. Dinner in the private room. Here’s what we had.
Appetizers, being :
-醬香蘿蔔 (didn’t try as someone said it was spicy)
-蟹粉春卷: 春卷 itself was yummy: very crispy and not oily but couldn’t taste any 蟹粉 at all.
-冰鎮鵝肝: surprisingly yummy. Very smooth.
-蔥油海蜇頭: also good;very爽
甜豆河蝦仁: as good as the one at Shanghai club.
搶虎尾, ie eel in sauce. Loved it. Tender and soft.
清蒸大閘蟹: there were S/M/L to choose from. Everyone went for the smallest size. Initially wanted to order the 忘不了 as well, which was supposedly a signature. However manager advised against it, saying it was a clash of flavors with the crab.
松子雞米窩巴卷: yums.
火朣雞燉大排翅: flavors not as intense as the one from Shanghai club.
蟹粉魚肚: crisp texture of the 魚肚 soaked up the 蟹粉 very well.
蟹粉豆腐: came in a sizzling pot. A very pleasant surprise.
蟹粉小籠包
蘿蔔絲酥/鮮肉酥: very good.
蝦籽蔥燒海參- the only dish which wasn’t up to par. There was a piece of 海參 that was way too hard for my liking. No hint of 蝦籽 whatsoever.
Dessert: 桂花紅豆糕+椰棗拉糕.
In summary: Modern Shanghainese cuisine. Well deserved Michelin star. Excellent service. Clean toilets.
