Sukiyaki Dinner. Interconnected with sister restaurant Kido (with the charcoal grill). 2 sets to choose from: $680 or $1380. Went for the former. Seated at the counter watching the 2 chefs at work. The chef who served us was a Japanese lady. She would introduce the dishes in Japanese; and friendly server would translate behind us. Here’s what we had. The chef who served us was a Japanese lady. She would introduce the dishes in Japanese; and friendly server would translate behind us.
Here’s what we had.
Appetizer trio, comprising :-
-Pea tofu
-櫻花蝦+山菜 tempura with green tea salt
-Chicken with sesame (normally eaten in the new year)
Chef then presented us with the 2 types of wagyu beef that we would be having.
Plus the 7 varieties of vegetables including tofu, leeks, mushroom etc.
Condiments included truffle paste, yuzu. wasabi etc.
First type of wagyu was a striploin from Kyoto Himegyu. Server translated that this type of female cow never bore children; so the meat was especially tender.
Rice steamed with konbu and 2 types of egg to go with it.
Second kind of wagyu was the Kagawa Olive-gyu. Which came with some cabbage.
And vegs. Especially LOVED the tomatoes from Shizuoka 靜岡-super sweet.
Clams and 平目魚with dashi.
Dessert: melon + yuzu sorbet.
In summary: very well executed. Excellent service. So far, have not been disappointed by any of the restaurants in the group.
