I’m a Canadian who loves pho and live in HK now. Back when I was in Canada, I’d have pho 2-3 times per day for a whole week…. I even flew to Vietnam just becoz I wanted to have real pho, so one can imagine how much I love pho. Since I moved to HK, I’ve been searching for good pho all these years, but I could never find one that gives me that ‘Canada pho’ taste. Back to my review…. Came across this restaurant which claims the “from Canada” taste, as I read that the owner also came back from Cana
Here it comes, the 撈㩚 is average la. As usually the 㩚 would be warm at other places, while it really should be cold. And then if they have a really good sauce then you’re good to go. The only critic for it is that the spring roll was not crunchy enuf. And since it sits on the noodle, one way or other, it’s gonna get soggy. And I’m the kind of person who likes to eat the noodle first, so….
Now for the beef pho…I’d say it’s a big disappointment. The soup is very light tasted and no taste of beef bone at all. The most disappointing thing is, the bean sprout and only a few was already in the bowl of noodle, unlike in Canada and Vietnam, they’d give you a separate plate of bean sprout, mint leave, chili and most importantly, lime~!!
If the owner’s intention was to bring back ‘Canada style pho’, well, I’m sorry to say he totally failed, it’s more like HK style pho.
I understand most of the reviews are good. Perhaps I had a really high expectation before I went, it’s a disappointment for me.
Anyways, I’m just disappointed that again I haven’t found the taste of Canada style pho, not against the restaurant.
(Yes, I finished both bowls. Pho in Canada is much bigger)
