I went to meet my younger daughter after her rugby practise in Causeway Bay for dinner. She was very hungry and I didn't have a big lunch either, so we wanted to find somewhere fast. I rang Lawry's and they were full till 10pm, the restaurants in Hang Lung Centre, 千兩,和民, Mr Steak a la Minute all had queues, so we tried the Pearl City restaurants. The ones with empty tables were Pandang, the Indonesian restaurant, a Vietnam restaurant with not even one customer, Anytime and this Taiwanese restaur
It was hard to attract a waiter to order but we finally did.
The soy egg and minced pork rice came first. We thought they were quite mean to give us only half an egg and overall the rice was OK.
Deep fried mini oysters came with no flavour, so we asked for some seasoned salt. It was also not freshly fried as it wasn't hot.
The A vegetables with minced pork was next and the vegetables were very stringy, the mince had lots of mushroom bits which didn't taste right.
My daughter's iced malt bubble tea had too little ice, so it wasn't ice cold, just cool.
Then we had to wait a long time and chase before my fish bean curd shaved noodles arrived. The fish bean curd tasted like the frozen variety and the shaved noodles the instant packs that we can buy in Taiwan and some supermarkets here. I looked around at some other tables and saw that the deep fried pork chops were dark in colour, like when food is cooked in oil which has been reused many times.
I am not sure if we are spoilt from our recent food trip to Taiwan but even my very loyal daughter said it wasn't a good meal. Have they changed the chefs or the management ? I remember the place used to be very consistent. Not brilliant but always good enough. This time it just wasn't good enough.
Maybe that was why they have empty tables.
