The owner at this joint has taken over a nearby private kitchen 尚膳, and so I was expecting a similar fare in terms of the setting, quality and price. But it was a good choice for a dinner for 16 people that needed some quiet and peace to discuss some partly work-related issues, and partly to catch up with each other. I called them 3 weeks in advance to get my booking in, and on the day I had to call to cancel a couple of seats as HK PEOPLE ARE FLAKY. However, what was more of a surprise was that
The food made up for the earlier blunder. The $148 menu is only available on Mon-Thu for 10 persons or above, and since we fulfilled the criteria, it was the most cost-effective dinner for us. All the dishes were massive! Enough for 14 or more, and most of us had second helpings to help finish the meal. It was seafood and more seafood, which is where it differs from 尚膳. The prawns and crab were fresh but somehow it had that slightly briny (and not in a good way) taste to it, but it wasn't enough to leave a bitter after taste. The steamed fish was good too, but perhaps overdone by 30 seconds if one needs to be picky. The other dishes were all standard dishes one would expect in a restaurant, but at least their quality was consistent. The dishes came at a good steady pace, though we were already quite full by the time the seafood E mien came, and that was the only dish we couldn't finish. It was also too heavy to be at the end of the meal. Slices of oranges and dragonfruit cleansed the palate after a massive meal.
Would love to come back to try the "upgrades", with the next up at $188 and the most expensive at $508.
