I'm always concerned about the environment and keep supporting local places that promotes sustainability. Happened to find out Obihiro Hageten has been offering a range of vegan menu and dishes made with sustainable ingredients.The restaurant was established in 1934 in Hokkaido, and the Elements shop is their first overseas branch. Had a couple of fish and meat dishes, felt like something healthier so we ordered more veggies with various preparation methods.
🥬天ぷら野菜の盛り合わせ Tempura Vegetable Platter
🥬天ぷらコーン Tempura Corn
The tempura batter was fairly thin. Assorted vegetables included starchy sweet potato, yam and pumpkin, and juicy asparagus, eggplant and maitake mushroom. The corn was sweet with a caramelized and sticky texture.
🥬野菜しゃぶしゃぶ Vegetable Shabu-shabu
Hot pot in a piece of washi that is durable against water and fire and is able to absorb extra oil. Nicely flavored dashi base with savory mushrooms, spinach and leek.
🥬北海道野菜スープカレー Hokkaido Soup Curry w/ Vegetables
Hokkaido staple. More refreshing than normal curry. Great hangover food. Matched well with the chewy Japanese rice.
🥬焼き野菜 Stir-fried Vegetables
Perfectly fried. The mushrooms had a nice sear that locked in the umami, while the cabbage was crunchy and juicy.
