I have yet to try the Portuguese tarts from Lord Stow's in Macau, so when I knew this place serves them, I was glad that I could save a trip across the sea and have them in HK!The cafe was tucked at the end of the lift lobby, and was a bit small for a hotel cafe. The high chairs weren't exactly comfortable - is this place designed for people waiting to be checked into the hotel, or waiting for their clients, or for your friends so you can all go shopping at wtc more next door?!OK back to my Port

OK back to my Portuguese tart set ($38). This comprised of 2 Portugese tarts and a regular coffee of your choice. At $9 a tart, you have to get a coffee more than $20 in order to save on the set. Well that isn't difficult unless all you want is just a single shot of espresso, and I picked an Americana (original price $25).

I would say the tarts were above average. Warm, flaky and crispy, the pasty base was almost impressive. The custard in the centre was rich, creamy and full of the aroma of vanilla. The caramelised top was fine and not burnt.

But the coffee really SUCKS!!! I think this was the worst illy coffee I'd had for years! Bland to the point of being almost tasteless, and even acrid - what more can I say?

If you are in a Portuguese tart crave, do come and get your thrist quenched, but stay away from the coffee!
