After a tearful but fun beach play at the Black Sand Beach, we felt too hungry not to eat before heading back to Hong Kong, so we decided to dine at Restaurant Fernando before we headed home. The restaurant was almost full house at 6pm on this Sunday, so we waited a bit at the garden, played some fuseball before we got seated.Established since 1986, the restaurant was cosy with an exotic farmer house setting. Established since 1986, the restaurant was cosy with an exotic farmer house setting. I really love their red and white checked table cloth, which accent the cuteness of the restaurant. The menu is quite beat up after continuous use, it is easy to read as every dish comes with a picture. A downside to the menu is they only offer two kinds of veggie - boiled Choi Sum or mixed salad (with pathetic looking!)
The bread was served upon seating. I remembered the bread was bigger in size last time I came a few years ago. The bread was nice, it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Fernando offers butter and olive oil to go with the bread.
The roasted pig was served right after, I was surprised by the serving speed and also the portion of the dish. Yet what's the most surprising was how heavenly the dish is! I went speechless after I took my first bite. The crunch hat I bite into the skin, the melting fats on my tongue and the savoury lingering taste... Totally foodgasmic!
Almost all Portuguese restaurants offer this kind if meat dishes, yes they are tender but I don't find them indulging. The potato was very good though, they are soft and buttery.
Roasted Sardine
The sardine was in amazing roasted aroma, the skin was crispy and tasted smokey and the meat was juicy.
The deep fried Bacalhau balls were crispy on the skin with buttery mash and Bacalhau bits in it. Quite yum.
The chorizo was savoury, fat and smokey. Loved it!
