Last Firday, my boyfriend and i went to 798 unit & co restaurant for dinner. We had book the table before, but we need to wait about 15 min.We ordered half of grilled chicken, lamb rack and clam. The food was not bad, but the lamb was a little gamey. I like the chicken more, it's so delicious, the meat is not too tough. Food is okay, the place is nice and special of the open kitchen, but the place is very noise. The waiteress is no smile.Overall is OK for the food and place.

香蕉焦糖雪糕, 好濃的香蕉味, 好明顯係落左好多banana syrup......

食物算是一般般啦, 想說的是menu上多半是法國菜, 而唔係英國菜.....
環境太黑了........menu都得不太清~
都好多三五成群, 少少嘈.......
後來十點黎左十人坐係我地旁, 我地即刻走人~~
服務.....都唔覺有...基本的收碟加水咁啦.....

A friend of mine recommended me to go, she had previously been there once and said it was good. The only adverse comment she had was the place is cold which she wasn't wrong there, our nipples could cut glass whilst walking up their front stairs. We walked passed the open kitchen, it needs good scrub from top to bottom and it should have been closed with iron bars since it is so messy and disorganised.We booked a table and arrived on time, though it was not a busy night, staff had to re-confirm

We booked a table and arrived on time, though it was not a busy night, staff had to re-confirm our telephone number at the desk to make sure they did not make a mistake, not a sign of confidence when the place was left half empty the whole duration when we were there.
We were asked if we wanted a drink before we even had a chance to look at what's on the list. I ordered a glass of Viognier, which is one of the 2 choices of wine by the glass and it was all forgotten about until we chased up another waiter. He too had to come back and find out what my order was - not an impressive start. The wine is too sweet and the sweetness clings in your mouth for a long time.
We kicked off with ceviche of baby octopus and a citrus chicken salad, both arriving more or less the same time. A ceviche is a fish dish usually marinated with an acid, such as lemon juice and the chemical reaction of the protein in the fish with the acid will cook the fish that naturally. What we got is a plate of cooked octopus dressed in the acid. A mere play on the word ceviche. Flavour-wise, it was fine, needs a generous sprinkle of sea salt to make dish come alive but there was no cruets on the table which is a good thing if you have a good chef in the kitchen. In this case, seasoning is below par.
Chicken salad was a standard mix of green leaves, shredded chicken & fennel. Dressing is very mild, almost undetactable. It is when you reach the bottom and get to the grapefruit segments, you can have some taste. Again, the whole thing lacks seasoning and the fennel could do with some roasting to take the edge off it.
I have wanted to try the pork chop so I ordered one. It came very charred on the outside but it has a texture which resembles a wet tissue. The pink hue inside and the charring on the outside is utterly fake. For it to be that black on the outside, the crust should be crispy and this is not.. The marinade had broken down the protein structure of the meat so much that it feels like you are chewing on cardboard. I like the side bbq pineapple very much but let's be honest here, it is not 3-star michelin cooking we are talking about. And the pseudo-waldorf salad is drowned in mayo and strangely mixed in with potatoes? If I had known, I would have not ordered the baked potato wedges, the reason for that is you are paying top dollars on a piece of sub-standard meat and they have to bulk it up to make it worth the price tag. The potato wedges did not fair any better. For start, these are skin-on potato chips, made with large baking potatoes. You will not eat the skin on a baked potato, why would you be expected to here? They are also slightly undercook and almost fringing on inedible, luckily I have a strong stomach.

My friend had the salmon dish, the finger size salmon piece did not tally with the $160 price tag which served on a bed of crushed frozen peas tossed with brunoise of bacon. Though she asked to have the salmon well-done, the skin was still not crispy, it might have been cooked with microwave or radiation of some sort. The foam or veloute accompanying the dish has a strange, depressing after taste, the salmon would have voted against using that as an accompliment.
We finished the meal off with 2 desserts. I changed the banana gelato for the brownie to a sea salt caramel one. It came dusted with icing sugar which I hate since it showed the chef has something to hide. The brownies have been cut into bite size pieces which might as well since I have to push the fork till my fingers turn white before I can get into them and they are frozen! I have never had a frozen brownie before, this is a first. The salted caramel gelato is all salt and not much caramel flavour. I would have liked a strong caramel ice-cream with some Malton sea salt on the side to flavour.
My friend ordered a Lychee martini which from what we read on the menu, it is a panna cotta in disguise. It came surprisingly served in a jar, chef's lazy way of not having to get the thing out of the mould. The consistency is very much fish-ball like so it has been in the fridge for quite some time to get that bounce. At this point, it came as a shock to us that it has sago mixed in and my friend had spent her last days in hospital due to a sago dessert food poisioning, we were both disgusted at the lack of information on the menu.
Overall, service was dreamy, with waitress drifting in and out of coma. My friend and I ate at different speed, and waitress would clear plates and cutlery whilst my friend is still eating. The manager did not come and check if we are ok, considering we spend $66X for dinner of 2, we should have given a better level of attention when the place is only half full.
To me, this place needs to learn it's 123 before venturing itself into 798.

i didnt give a penny more except the actual bill. i wouldnt recommend anyone to go there, certainly me first time and last time.

food-wise, the seared bay scallops & roasted pumpkin risotto was no good. the rice was half done. also the well known oven-roasted US thick cut pork loin chop was so dry. we ordered 4 portions and they were all different. 2 of them were so dry that you cant even chew it. nothing special food-wise.

This is my 6th time coming to 798 and I've decided not to come back anymore...Disappointed on:-their services ( got worse - server with no smiles & bad attitude)-food quality has gone down ( wonder if they have change their chef)-portion: getting smaller & smallerThe only reason that I want to go to 798 is their decor & selection of wine list. Other than that, not worth of trying.

This is my 6th time coming to 798 and I've decided not to come back anymore...

Disappointed on:

-their services ( got worse - server with no smiles & bad attitude)
-food quality has gone down ( wonder if they have change their chef)
-portion: getting smaller & smaller

The only reason that I want to go to 798 is their decor & selection of wine list. Other than that, not worth of trying.

從灣仔乘船回到尖沙咀,仍不捨得回家,就上來有宵夜甜品的798坐一坐。由於男友已經放棄,只有我獨力應戰,就選了心太軟配甘菊茶($55)。心太軟配榛子雪糕︰兩樣的份量都不多,雪糕球更顯得小。心太軟的皮焗得脆脆的,不錯﹗可惜流心巧克力不多,但味道是蠻濃郁的。榛子雪糕有點甜,有榛子碎粒混在當中,增加口感。雖然餐廳暗暗的像蠻有情調,但整間餐廳都很嘈雜,不適合情侶來談心喔。

飯後還可加$10, 要咖啡和甜品, 愛甜的我, 又怎會錯過呢? 要了紅莓撻, 係好似芝士餅的批底, 再加上玉桂味的饀料, 數粒紅莓排在最上層, 賣相幾討好, 味道方面, 也不過不失咁啦, 終於紅莓不是我那杯茶嘛!

環境的確唔錯, 相信晚間的情調更好, 下次有機會要推介給友人橕枱腳先得!

記九月中旬難忘晚餐幾欣賞幾位老闆每於創新精神,偶有佳作,做得不好的或作改良,改不好的乾脆fade out,物如是、人如是。跟主理人閒談間,聽說新出了西式海鹽焗原條海魚,橫豎未試過,也有興趣一嚐,又順道再試招牌名物烤焗安格斯肋骨。周末七時許,人很多氣氛亦很熱鬧,這就是798,大廚推介大蜆,簡單就是美乾脆來個白酒煮蜆(約一百),原條烤焗的牛肋骨(約二百六十)也是必吃,大廚知自己脾氣生熟度由他發辦就好了,鹽焗魚麻(約二百二十),他推介海鱸,簡單三味感覺很豐富。白酒煮蜆小長碟盛著,份量不多卻是粒粒肥美,很簡單的下了些切碎蔥粒及白酒煮焗,材料夠新鮮肉質細嫩,白葡萄酒薄薄甜美及蔥本身的甘甜與蜆鮮味配搭得宜,未幾已吃個碗底朝天,要追加麵包將湯汁清理。鬼佬不懂蒸魚,就算包錫紙烤焗的魚,肉質亦未能貼近原味,惟獨鹽焗能達至肉嫩濕潤效果,大盆香草海鹽醃焗的鱸魚,由侍應推出拆鹽,打開牛油紙並將至起骨,由於是新推出作品,手腳難免有點生疏。冰鮮鱸魚鮮味與肉質不能與本地清蒸海魚相比,但作為異鄉客角度看,是幾新奇有趣的,焗的火候差不多,背鰭位置亦不至於太乾,腩的位置肥美,可惜魚本身肉質實在不行,霉腍鬆散,海鮮質素有時

跟主理人閒談間,聽說新出了西式海鹽焗原條海魚,橫豎未試過,也有興趣一嚐,又順道再試招牌名物烤焗安格斯肋骨。

原條烤焗的牛肋骨,不敢說這裡是全港最好,但肯花時間以橄欖油醃浸半天,煎完再焗,肉質靚、火候到家,嫣紅肋肉滲著微微血水,要求的生熟到已做到,連著骨位部份滲著豐腴油甘,外圍的部份亦不瘦削乾巴,很有水準!

正完埋單,店方客氣地送來一客價值不菲甜品併盤,不嗜甜的她亦吃得津津樂道,當中麵包布甸焗得香口而餡的部份亦能做到濕潤鬆化,很有水準,謝謝店方窩心暖意替這頓晚餐變寫下難忘回憶。
為此而來,卻不夠運沒能吃上鮮嫩鹽焗魚

We saw this place when we had desserts opposite to it last time. It is located at the 1/F and the décor looks kinda cozy. Initially we were attracted to the dessert menu but we had dinner instead. It serves western food with limited choice of seafood e.g. seafood platter but not many types of oysters. We ordered:

Crabmeat with sweet corn salad HKD40+ – there were three pieces and quite filling
Beer battered fish n chips around HKD110 – it was wrapped with wax paper and wasn’t v. oily. The cod was good with thin batter and there were different sauces to serve with: ketchup and vinegar for the chips and mayonnaise for the fish
Slowly cooked oxtail risotto around HKD100 – lucky it took some time to come which matched with the name! cos we were quite full after finishing the fish n chips. The risotto absorbed all the sauce but not much oxtail you could find.

There is a lot of variety when it comes to desserts but we were too stuffed and couldn’t make it there. Would definitely go back for the desserts as there is a separate menu HK55 for desserts with tea/coffee. The place is nice but it’s extremely noisy that you have to shut at each other while chatting. I got a headache afterwards so it’s probably a good idea to go during the non-peak hours. There is also a stand-alone area for smokers – it is located at the patio which is nicely decorated.
