Tried this vegan ice cream before, cows are happy. These days it has promotion for $5 for scoop! The ice crystal from these ice cream tends to be smaller than regular ice cream and therefore smoother!The banana caramel is very tasty! Although the hint of caramel is subtle, the banana flavour and scent is very prominent! Not really sweet and is really optimal!The chocolate flavour is more flavourful than regular dairy-based chocolate ice cream. Again, not really sweet, a delightful experience! continue reading

Happy Cow has been serving vegan ice creams for at least six years.I was lucky I got to visit their ice cream factory in 2013.Happy Cow is a brand of dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, low glycemic vegan and most importantly Kosher icecream.The main ingredients include guar gum a natrual thickener, coconut sugar (brown) which gives their ice-creams a brown colour.All their flavours have an extremely coconutty taste attributed to coconut milk and coconut sugar, and the texture is thick and creamier to other ice creams.Happy Cow has a cute cafe at HKU which unfortunately is going to close down soon.That day I got my favourite cherry fudge which is sweet and satisfying with chunks of fudge and cherries.The texture was thick and gooey.Also got the mint and chocolate which is always soothing.The chocolate chips in it are delicious.The scoops are probably better as the texture is not as frozen as the ones in the cabinet. continue reading

想食唔想肥嘅女仔注意啦😈呢隻「雪糕」係冇牛奶嘅 而且係dairy-free, cholesterol-free and egg-free重點係糖脂肪含量好低 但佢嘅味道、口感都同普通雪糕好接近-This “icecream”🍦 is free of milk, cholesterol and eggs. Its sugar and fat content is much lower but it tastes like normal icecream! It is a healthier alternative for people who want to eat icecream while being on diet. 我雖然沒有正式在「香港大學」裡面讀書,甚至還未在「香港大學」裡面,當過正式被學校正式聘用的職員。我唯一曾經在「香港大學」渡過工作的生涯,是在十年半之前,在「沙宣道」校園裡面的合約助理工作。至於位於港大百周年校園那一邊的地方,恕我直言,我跟港大百周年校園的緣份,僅僅止於十九年前,因為在高級程度會考放榜,需要趕到港大進行聯招改選的工作而已。所以我今次來到港大,幫襯「快樂牛雪糕專門店」的時候,我曾經擔港大會否因為我跟港大現在沒有關係,而對我貿貿然進入港大的而有所行動呢?我很慶幸實際上,我在港大幫襯「快樂牛雪糕專門店」的期間,都未曾遇上過任何的問題。而且當時的「快樂牛雪糕專門店」,裡面除了看店的店員之外,就沒有其他學生教職員在場了。而且,我發現「快樂牛雪糕專門店」店內,竟然放置雕塑品擺設的數目,比餐檯餐櫈還要大和多。幸好「快樂牛雪糕專門店」當時沒有太多學生幫襯,所以我一個人享用也不成問題。至於「快樂牛雪糕專門店」裡面的雪糕售價,原來分為了學生價、教職員價,還有像我麵樣已經跟港大沒有關係的外人「公眾價」。「快樂牛」的「公眾價」雪糕價錢最昂貴,我買一球雪糕加威化筒已經需要港幣四十三元。換言之,我在「快樂牛」裡面付款購買的單球「車厘子杏仁朱古力醬」雪糕連威化筒實際價錢,其實跟「快樂牛」另外售賣的「曲奇三文治」價錢相差無幾。另一方面,原來香港大學都已經跟隨世界奉行環保的風氣,早已經沒有發生以紙張做材料,印製出來版本的機器列印收據。港大「快樂牛」取而代之的是,以平板電腦展示收費詳情的頁面。我在跟「快樂牛」店員稍為溝通過之後。就獲得「快樂牛」店員同意,拿着手機相機鏡頭對着「快樂牛」平板電腦裡面顯示的收費頁面,拍下一張收據圖片了事。既然大學作為站在全球領導,支持環保減廢工作的代表一份子,支持減低碳排放,減少浪費紙張對於香港大學,對於「快樂牛雪糕專門店」而言都是非做不可的事,我對此非常理解和尊重。至於我的「車厘子杏仁朱古力醬」雪糕球配威化雪糕筒,則在我完成拍攝平板電腦版本收據之後,「快樂牛」看店店員亦都立刻,在雪糕冰凍櫃裡面刮出一球體積不大也不小的「車厘子杏仁朱古力醬」雪糕威化筒給我。不過我在「快樂牛」店員正在刮「車厘子杏仁朱古力醬」雪糕球的時候,我發現原來「車厘子杏仁朱古力醬」雪糕球實際上還剩下很多存貨,估計「車厘子杏仁朱古力醬」雪糕在港大師生心目中的評價只是一般而已。我在付款過後,再用手機的相機鏡頭拍下了「快樂牛」平板電腦版本的虛擬化收據之後,就收下了「快樂牛」店員製造的「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕威化筒,然後坐在一邊開始試食。由於「快樂牛」實際內部的樓面,有一大隻外型威猛的牛造型雕塑品,陳列在檯櫈旁邊,所以我在享用雪糕球的期間,始終會感覺到一股無形無色的壓迫感。另一方面,「快樂牛」的店員看似原來忘記,做一件起初應該做的事情,就是提供或者提醒食客可以做的事,就是取用食雪糕的匙羹。可能就是港大奉行環保,所以連「快樂牛」也不會提供匙羹給食威化筒雪糕的食客吧?幸好「快樂牛」的雪糕球感覺,實在很像手工製作的意大利雪糕,或者純天然雪糕球。所以我忽然發現「快樂牛」雪糕球實際的質地與口感,都是偏向比較黏稠,我用口咬雪糕也竟然在容易扯開雪糕球。結果我舔了幾下,咬了幾囗的「快樂牛」「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕球之後,雪糕球實際上仍然剩下很大份量,我感覺「快樂牛」雪糕的黏性實在很厲害。雖然我就不敢在沒有親身證實的情況之下,貿貿然判定「快樂牛」的「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕球裡面,肯定是沒有牛奶成份,我亦明顯食不到任何與牛奶有關的味道感覺。但是,即使「快樂牛」「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕的味道尚算是甜味,但是「快樂牛」「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕有一點令我疑惑,就是車厘子與杏仁兩種味道合體後,效果不如理想。因為我硬是覺得,從「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕裡面吃到一陣似甜非甜,有種類似化學效果的氣味感覺,那種怪感覺的來源某程度是來自於杏仁身上。未炒過的天然杏仁,杏仁身上總有一陣,非常獨有的氣味,即使車厘子跟雪糕本身的味道如何地甜,也無法完全掩蓋杏仁裡面的奇怪氣味。我喜歡食杏仁,但是我接受不了杏仁本身的氣味。至於「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕球身上原本應該有的濃厚車厘子甜味,亦都在杏仁本身的強大氣味影響之下,忽然一下子被掩蓋和淡化了。我個人其實算是很喜歡朱古力、車厘子、杏仁三種食材的口感與味道,但是偏偏三種食材合而為一,變成雪糕球裡面的材料之後,出到來的味道就產生了叫我無法完全接受的怪味道。朱古力、車厘子的味道無疑很甜,杏仁的口感也是很脆,奈何「快樂牛」本來好地地的「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕,就因為那一股難以接受的氣味所破壞了。至於「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕球其他部分的味道,其實我覺得還不錯的,當然如果雪糕球裡面,還有類似杏仁的爽脆口感的話,效果應該會更好。不過,既然我一場來到香港大學,光顧購買了「快樂牛」製造的甜味「車厘子杏仁朱古力」雪糕球,「車厘子杏仁朱古力」的味道仍然有甜味在內,我都覺得沒有失望。可惜我始終不是在「香港大學」畢業,亦沒有「香港大學」的職員證,所以即使曾經在港大工作過,但是始終難以有歸屬感可言。下次還是否有機會再光顧「快樂牛雪糕專門店」,仍然是未知之數。 continue reading
