Made booking the night before for a booking at 8pm the next day, confirmed the booking at 2pm then received a call from the restaurant saying they cannot honour the booking at 8pm. Pretty ridiculous. I get it if they called earlier to cancel but it’s a bit last minute. Very unprofessional.

第二樣係黑松露鵝肝蒸蛋🤤又係必點的。蒸蛋上面鋪左一件切好嘅鵝肝,脆米,松露,口感好豐富,估唔到依三樣嘢咁夾👍🏻😍

第三樣和牛西冷唔多講,因為有啲失望,燒到好乾,仲有啲柴皮, 下次唔會再叫🤪

今天想要介紹一間日本割烹料理餐廳,這間餐廳是朋友推薦了很久要我去試一下。星期一至四它們家會有一個Tasting Menu,可以試它們家推薦的食物,我這個Tasting Menu約$698. 介紹一下有些什麼,首先是水菜沙律配柚子蕃茄醋,還有兩片冷制的桃太郎蕃茄,蕃茄特別深刻,因為蕃茄用了各類魚汁如鰹魚汁等浸泡,令蕃茄除了有自身的甜品,更有魚汁的調味、香味。精選刺身拼盤及海膽龍蝦Jelly,刺身拼盤就不多說了,不錯的但沒特別,海膽龍蝦Jelly是的確好吃,它是三層組成的,底層是蛋黃醬打成的Jelly,中間一層是龍蝦味的Jelly,最高的就是海膽,一次要把三層都吃到,這樣你就會吃到不同的層次與味道,非常喜歡的一道菜。燒物方面,雞翅、柚子冬瓜、松葉蟹肉忌廉餅都不錯,特別覺得好的我覺得澳洲牛腹膜肉配芝士蛋黃醬,主要是材料本來就很好,牛腹膜肉燒的很好吃,牛肉汁鎖在肉裡但又不油膩。照燒汁智利鱸魚做的超級嫩滑,而且照燒汁甜甜的。反而本來對黑松露蛋配壽喜燒汁牛肉丼的期望很高,但反倒覺得沒什麼特別,視覺上沒有黑松露很豐盛的感覺,而且這樣配搭覺得黑松露的香味也沒有很出彩,牛肉也沒特別,味道是不錯,但亦沒有

KONA is a new izakaya in Tai Hang serving a variety of modern Japanese fare. We tried a number of dishes and most were well-designed and of high quality. The sea urchin lobster jelly was a delightful start to the meal, with the egg sabayon adding extra butter goodness. Portion was however a bit small, given that it was $168 each. The mizuna salad with yuzu dressing that followed was refreshing, and with blueberries and feta it isn't your typical salad. The Japanese eggplant wrapped in Serrano ham was also good, with the soft and juicy flesh of the eggplant nicely balancing the savouriness of the ham. The monaka wafer was filled with foie gras pate and cheese - cute and innovative, but the liver pate could be creamier. And the Aji tartare was a tad too salty for my liking, but the sashimi was fresh and squeezing the lime juice did make it better. The grilled winter melon was a good one, again with soft and juicy flesh and the pink salt played a subtle elevating role. Then came the kushiyaki grilled meats. The gun-smoked chicken neck was tender and juicy, though the smoky flavour could be more pronounced. The Australian wagyu harami was was well-flavoured, but would have been even better if cooked to medium (it was almost well-done). Also wasn't sure about the cheese yolk on top as I thought the combination was a bit odd and didn't really enhance taste or texture the beef. Our final dish was the highly popular wagyu sukiyaki don. The wagyu here was more tender and fattier than the harami, and I'd say also sweeter. The truffle got lost when mixed in with the sukiyaki sauce though. Personally I would have preferred a milder/less salty sukiyaki and stronger truffle flavour. Lastly we asked for desserts to end our meal - turned out they only had 3 flavours of ice cream on the dessert menu: wasabi, brown sugar, and yuzu sorbet. We opted for the brown sugar. It was a pleasant one with a hint of caramel and a subtle nuttiness. Wish they had more special/sophisticated offerings for desserts though. Overall this was a nice meal, with excellent and attentive service. We sat at the bar table facing the window as those were the last available seats when we booked a few days in advance, but it was actually quite nice looking out to the street in this cosy neighbourhood. Would love to come back to try their other dishes and maybe encore a couple!

This is my 1st review on Open Rice, and tbh I hesitated to leave one for Kona because the evil side of me want to keep this hidden gem to myself hahaha!

Things I love about Kona:
(1) Staff are friendly and detail-oriented, though some of them are not fully trained yet (not familiar with menu items, ingredients, cooking method, etc), they provide a great level of customer service (polite, attentive and efficient).
(2) The interior is simple and cozy, good balance of space between tables. The restroom is surprisingly spacious and clean (you know it’s a big turn off when a decent restaurant comes with a yucky restroom!)
(3) FOOD - SO SO SO SO SO SO SO GOOOOD! Kona’s yakitori are grilled with charcoal behind the bar, small batch at a time, mostly start from raw meat instead of taking a short cut by deep frying beforehand. And of course, the truffle wagyu beef bowl is crazily goooooood, a good balance of egg yolk, truffle, wagyu beef and rice! My only complaint on their food is that the portion is rather small.
(4) SAKE! Kona has a selection of sake from small Japanese brewery which you can’t usually find in the market - good quality, easy to drink and reasonable price!

P.S. Don’t forget to make reservation ahead of time, especially for weekends!

That is blatantly wrong and a lie, and after I corrected her, she then blamed how small the grill and how busy the chef was, Which is even more shocking, the restaurant was maybe half full throughout the night.
The food tasted great actually, and would recommend if you didnt feel like you were starving for most of the night.
